Post by mudhaw »

Got a letter today from a courrier saying my surf had to go back to Toyota to get a new steering arm fitted :?:
It is a 1991 import just wondering if anyone else has had the same letter

Yup got one as well, mine wore out, so replaced with a ripco one - which sheared off and replaced that one with one off a burnt out wreck so should get a nice new one.

imagine how many surfs there are and they are recalling them all i think. mine is a 94 what year is yours?

Which steering arm is it that is being recalled?

How did Toyota find all the current owners?

Matt.

I got one too, I've got a 91 surf.
Ithink that you're right ... they must have got the owner info from the LTSA registration data base 'cause I've only had mine in my own name for a month. :P :P
Form the number that I've seen around the Hawkes Bay the Toyota dudes are gonna be real busy

Anyone notice the date on that, only took them a year and a half for them to recall the nz ones. I wonder how many failed in that year and a half. I know my one did

What happened when your's failed Mike

He was down the waipara, we all had a laugh, sent some boys back to get one off a burntout wreck and we fitted it. All on an ORE training day.

One place says '86 on another says '88 on

Going by the chassis codes looks like we are safe with our good old LN60 series trucks.

I never got a letter either.

FYI - heres the steering relay rod (marked just as "relay rod"):
Image

Mike, your broken arm was the idler arm... something altogether different... although it attaches to it on the passenger side (the idler arm is the passenger side "steering box" equivalent).

I'm guessing a few people never got this letter, I've passed on the details to a few people I know with them who never knew anything about it. Anyone had the repair done?

My mate just had his done, rutherford and bond in wellington stole an indicator bulb :?: then they sent it for an alignment at elizibeth st tyres and the f*%ked it up really bad, so that mean that I'll be re doing it tommorow, and truth be known, it DID NOT NEED ANOTHER ALIGNMENT, because nothing adjustable was touched.

oh and also the alignment place got the tierod end locks in the wrong position and bent them and bent the locking bolts too.

moral of the story only go where you know does a good job regardless of cost.
