13BT, 14BT, 15BT ???

does anyone know the difference between these motors , know of any websites with info about them , seen any 14BT's in NZ ?

One of these i plan to build after most my other stuff is done ( lockers , suspension & brakes , driveline , etc ) have heard about the 14's & 15's , but would have a clue what they are . maybe there is just a terminolgy difference , like aussie to kiwi's , etc

Quick google search...

The 14b is 3.7L and the 15b is 4.1L. All of the B motors have piston skirt cooling. The 14b(non turbo) is direct injection. Both motors have been used in Diahatsu and Hino trucks as well as Toyota coaster buses. They'll have a different sump and oil pickup, however the sump from your 3b should bolt straight up to it. I believe they are the same block, I've been meaning to put my 3b next to the 14b in the Daihatsu Delta here at work some time to compare but have not got around to it yet.

i hear the 14B has a rotary injection pump , what a shame. be great to find a 15bt and swap over the 13bt injection pump to keep it full mechanical , save the hassle ( challenge ) in dropping in the 14b/15b crank ans boring the block out more foe bigger liners/sleeves for bigger capacity ! then again could be fun doing that .

I found out for myself today about this topic , firstly went to a Japanese diesel engine part shop on Falsgrave st , they are wicked there , very eager to help you out and answer or direct you to some who knows about any questions you have , definatelly gettn stuff from there .

Anyway , on the counter there today after asked if could have a look at them , was a 15BT piston & liner set just taken out of its wrapper & buuble rap , a 13BT liner ( forgot to ask to see the piston ) .

- 13BT has a finished bore size of 102mm ( they come semi-finished ) which had a wide lip & ridge at the top

- 14BT ( & 15BT) have a 6mm longer stroke crankshaft than the 13BT , but the 14Bt has the same sleeve size as the 13BT ( 102mm ) , its a similar head to the 13BT & this engines displaces just under 3.7 ltr with a slightly beefier block .

- 15BT version is 108mm which was a straight sleeve with nothing on top. The piston has a dish in top of piston but with a slight protruding flat rise .Head is a 16 Valve version & displaces around 4.1 ltr ( yet to see inside one, only a matter of time ) .
