When: Sat 10 March 06
Where: Ashley 4x4 track
Who: Mullet, Elmo, Philux and Richard (plus a few passangers)
Why: COZ WE CAN!!
Started sat morning with a few texts, 'wanna go out' 'yeah' 'where' etc, it lead to meeting at the Ashley river Sh1 bridge.
Heading into what we thought was the 4x4 track, of course it was, but it was so over grown that you couldnt tell.
Drove though many tracks, several lead to dead ends, some of which we just made our own track out of, some we couldnt.
1 lead to a mud hole, which had no track on the other side, but we made sure we gave it a go. We had to 'prue' a 'branch' to allow better recovery access as we knew we wouldnt make it out on our own.
As it happened...
we were right!
Mullet gave it the first go. Managed to get well stuck, with a bit of 'tooing and fro'ing' and a bit of other driving, he still didnt manage to get out! Richard came to the rescue. Even with all wheels loosing traction, Richard still managed to drag Mullets arse out.
We all stood round looking at each other.
They looked at me, 'giving it a go?' they said.
Hell yes, and I was in.
I well and truelly sturred up the mud. Back and forth, but no good. Couldnt make it.
This time Philux hooked on and dragged my dirty truck out.
Next Phil gave it a go, same thing. No luck, but he got a little closer (had 33's)
Pulled him out, and we carried on.
Mullet proceeded to moan all afternoon as mud was wiped off the leading trucks onto branchs, then was flicking off them onto him, through his window.
Down some more tracks, in and out of trees.
Didnt find any more real mud holes. But we did find some rather cool tracks, that just disappeared into the forest section etc. Some bit got rather tight with snokels etc on branchs, but all good.
Found a step bank to go down by the rail bridge, that was interesting (not the one on vid)
We ended up winding our way up to the main raod behind Rangiora.
Great day had by all.
Thanks for the invite.
(sorry more people didnt get invited, but it was all done via text)
Sun morning, went to wash world on moorhouse, after $8, my truck was pretty clean, there wash bay was, well, NOT!
Seeya on the track again guys.

Ha I know where that bank is where the two trucks go down, was playing there on friday afternoon myself. That's my entry point to the river - through the Ashley township, I live only about 2 kms from there.
But can you give directions to that mud hole
Since my truck is in a mess at the moment I need to head down there with my mate in his Roo and explore the hole.
As for mud holes - the whole place is a bit dry at the moment. (apparently we are in for a cold (read damp) autumn and winter). A few weeks ago we did the 4wd track up river from the Rga bridge and its all too dry and boring but eventually found a soft sand spot in the river bed and had some fun, managed to get out without assistance tho.
Went up the Harper/Avoca yesterday and its dry up there too. The usual mud holes are still good heading out to the pinnacles. Also found a good spot up towards basin hut, it was about a foot + of slush with a fairly firm base. Truck performed well, just did some minor damage to bumpers and other 'glory' panels
Remember - directions to that mud hole - thinking wednesday evening

You mean you didn't record GPS coordinates!! lol
North or South bank? between what bridges?
I could guess but it wouldn't be a very good guess. I still have some more vids to upload which i'll do when I get a chance.

Just that this morning I saw a blue disco with snorkle and other mods heading down Marshmans in Ashley
Im based in Kaiapoi and Philux's mate. I have a blue disco but it doesn't have a snokrle on it and is a work in progress. Hope to have it out in the next month or so.
