Hilux disk rear brakes including handbrake mod

I've finally got rear disc brakes and a working handbrake, have been asked by several to post pics ect so here they are


this pic shows hilux front disc mounted on rear, mitsubishi galant callipers mounted front facing.



This shot shows hydraulic brake line(which I still have to make a support for for cert), also shows small handbrake cable between calliper and rear leverage set up.

This shows the original hilux H/B actuator mounted sideways on a custom plate which provides the leverage. ALso you can see the adjustor set up.

In this shot you can see it attached to the original hix cross diff cables and also the return spring for the lever.

If anyone in canterbury is after more info or a close up looksee don't hesitate to contact me, and many thanks to my father who is a regular ORE surfer and figured most of this out for me over the Xmas break while I was working on steering, suspension, and dual transfercase setup .
He is currently in the process of doing the same rear brake setup as well

Nice job :thumleft: How does it perform brake-wise now? Are you happy with it? Anything you would change on the next one? When do we get to see the dual transfer happening? God camera work too, by the way

Brakes perform well enough to get certed and warranted, real happy with the result, there's a couple of small things Dad is doing differently on his, dual transfer is completed and crawlin'

Is the handbrake better than stock?

yes and no
No it's no quite as effective as a hilux handbrake that is in perfect working order from the factory as new, but pretty close
Yes it's better that stock as it always works well even after being in mud etc and doesn't need adjusting all the damn time like shoes, on trips to the coast due to mica in the mud, I would have no handbrake after 2 days due to wear and the need for adjustment, then every time I had to replace shoes it was a bloody prick of a job changing pads is a rare occurance and takes about 5mins cost half the price.
I have run both this setup (about a year), and the drums (over 2 years) if I bought another hilux this would be a mod that would be quickly repeated due to low cost to do, ease of maitainence, and just plain old reliability

DeRanged is milling some axles and rotors and making a set of caliper brackets for me to do the same swap.
