Just out of curiosity what did you pay for the bolts, what grade and length and size? I've got access to bolts for the site but havnt put them up yet as thought most people have access to cheap bolts anyway 
I would take that back to the mechanic and tell them to fix those stripped bolts. Hiding stuffed threads is a dangerous thing especially since the core of the thread will have been ripped out reducing the effective diameter (strength part) of the thread. One solid knock on a rock and she could be all over especially with 2.5 tons of vechicle behind it

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing... if the threads are damaged then even though they tightened up for you the effective strength of the nut has been lost, which in an offroad situation, or possibly worse - an accident, could be a disaster waiting to happen.
The safest thing to do would be to replace the nuts, or if you can't remove them then drill through them and use new nuts on top... or even just wind nuts down on top of the existing ones as jam-nuts - use nylocks if you can too... they won't (well, shouldn't) work loose.
The cost of those bolts, if nothing else, needs to be presented to the garage that did the work... I know first-hand how expensive metric 8.8 bolts are, especially odd-sized ones. Even with my trade account the 4 M10 metric fine bolts I am using to make the steering mod on my truck cost me $18... 4 bolts! geez, I nearly died...

The garage just doesn't give toss, they have a monopoly here in town, they just shrugged when i told them about the drive shaft, it was the front end of the rear shaft and thats roll over material on the open road!!!!

I can get to 4 of the 8 to put a nut on top, two on each side, the others are well and truly hidden in the chassis. Absolutly no way of getting to them except cutting a hole in the chassis!!!
I will throw a couple of nuts on top of the two i can get to for piece of mind, but they do feel ok, the tap really just sharpened the threads up again. But i know what your saying, I've been stressing to the point i just didn't want to go near them

Well I'm sure the threat of a letter to the MTA or AA describing unsafe practices and the potential for serious injury or death especially in recent light of major accidents up north might shake them up a bit especially if they could get closed down. I would just to piss them off, nothing worse than feeling cheated and ripped off, think of it as revenge

Yeah, I'm dicking them round with the payment of the job still, as they were supposed to do it under warranty as the pressure plate had a broken spring but they didn't, so i had to ship the clutch over to an assesor in Chch to get it checked. The wanted to only replace the pressure plate, so i hit the car yard up for the rest. They still havn't seen a cent. They will in good time, but for now they can get f#cked.

The engineering shops about a 5min walk away from me.
Great when you've got the vehicle in bits and you find you need something thats not in your collection of bits and pieces, or you can't be assed looking through box after box for what you want
