Drag link reinforcing?

Post by DaveM »

Has anyone reinforced their safari draglink? Although its the first time I've damaged mine, if I plan to head out again with Al and Rik (which may not be a good idea anyway) then I think I should make it a little stronger.

I bent the one in my dads truck in december, pulled it straight with the winch and weleded a peice of 20x20 angle down its length. Seems to have done the truck.

I recently replaced the tie rod, the one behind the diff, with a Howat Engineering jobbie as I bent the hell out of the factory one, I plan to leave the drag link as is though, I'd rather have that as a weak point than break something else.

Tie rod on mine has had it too. Did you have to supply your old tie rod to Brian to mod, or was it a complete new one?

Are you sitting down? $550 odd, which I think in reality is way to expensive, It's made out of solid chromoly which I know is expensive but when you can buy the same thing in Oz for $330 something ain't right.

Use a length of solid and a pair of female tie-rod ends. The rod ends are about $125 each from Nissan, I've posted the part numbers here before (LH and RH have different part numbers).
