a m8 of mine has just put his surf with suspension lift and body lift on 32s through a cert in invercargill and got pulled up on afew things...
1. front shocks, ok they went that good and should probably be changed.
2. steering column not long enought, fair enough, dont want the steering to fail.
3. speedo out reads 92 at 100ks on the guys gps????
4. had taken off rear sway bar, cant fail him on that can he that part of the point of getting the cert!!!!! any thoughts??
cheers Pete

Then change em... they make a huge difference as you know to the handling of a vehicle... Certifiers are there to make sure the truck is safe on the road...

Yep, you know that one all too well I recall

Speedos need to be within 5%, so that will need tweaking. The quick and dirty fix is to twist the needle slightly so it reads 100 at 100 (everything else will be out tho

My understanding is that he's made a suspension modification... therefor just note it on the cert plate. If it passes the road test then theres nothing else he can say about it. Definitely not a legal requirement to keep your sway bars.
Steve
the sway bar is the only thing i think he should argue with i spose its the certifiers call if its handeling is safe enough but its a bloody surf with a small lift, this guy cant have certed many trucks before if he thinks the handelings not up to it. think he was gona get new shocks all round so will tell im to do that then go back and put up his arguement.

there are 2 certifiers here i know of, one guy does heaps of guys certs in the hot rod club,he is very fussy and that is for good reason, the other is from gore, 90 percent of guys use him i know of and they do "heaps" of 4wd's down here, no need to give them a hard time, they are there for a reason, how many top winch trucks come from southland?
GPS speed results can vary slightly, but the manufactures quote a maximum of +/- 0.1 MPH.
They have complicated algorithms in them that work it out based on the co-ords the satellites give them. I would suspect these errors are due more to rounding in the algorithms. Also the faster you go, the more accuracte they are.

swamper,
how many of the winch trucks to you think handel better on the road than my m8s surf without its swaybar. my guess is none. i have seen the body roll of bruce hughes truck on the road and i can assusre you its alot more than that surf.
my surf has had the same mods and passed a cert fine, it handels alot better than most trucks that are more highly modified.
the truck is safe (im not arguing about the steering or shocks as i thnk these should be fixed and will make it alot safer). modified 4wds are not cars and do not handle well, they have to be driven accordingly and if you dont throw them round corners then they will drive safely on the road.
also before i got my cert i experimented with and without the swaybar and found that it made stuff all difference especially with new shocks.
i dont care how many trucks they have certified, to me this seems stupid.
