Help! Hilux needs new suspension

Post by Tonka »

Hi, I have recently purchased a new project (haven’t had a toy for many years), It is an ancient 1984 doublecab hilux (just love the older beam axles), body and motor in superb condition, running a nice set of 31â€

welcome, i had ome leafs and shocks, would reccomend them to anyone, no body lift and 33's, there was rubbing in the inside of the front guards, at full lock, i am pretty sure with 35's and a body lift there would still be some slight rubbing

You've never heard a bad report about OMEs? You haven't asked enough people :P Theres good and bad in everything but I've seen brand new OMEs arched backwards in a months driving... the problem is the front end of Hiluxes actually kink the packs by design due to the single-side steering setup.

Theres a few options - are you keeping it road-legal? are you going to get it cert'd? Rears-up-front and crossover steer is your best overall option for front suspension in a 'Lux... but 2" lift and long travel shocks are a good 'quick fix'.

Oh, I have a set of d-cab very solid brand new rock sliders I made ages ago... they're sitting in my workshop... $220 and they are yours... made from 75x50 box, three outriggers each, capped and braced.

Very Late update... Managed to get a full set of springs ex USA with shocks bushes etc nice and cheap with extra money left to throw at a set of 33 muddies, extended the brake lines, and have no probs with steering. Thanks to searching the forums i found it a piece of cake to do myself.. looks nice too.

I would love to insert a pic, but i cant figure out how..
