The Second Big Chop

Post by lilpigzuk »

Evening all

Well make that number 2 Rangie to go under the knife (or angle grinder should I say).
So far it looks as we may keep this one as a bobbed ute rather than go with the fullchop like the Rats one.

Ive got photos, just got to get around to working out how to upload them to this site :? Its excellent to remove approx 2 feet off the rear - reclaim some of my garage back :D
Fun parts over, onto the tricky bit................

More pics in my album here

Good stuff.
I looked at doing a bobbed pickup. I have put a picture that Mike sent me of one in my album.

Hey Rex,

Just make a new photo album and upload them there(see site help for instructions on a new album). I'll put the pics in your posts for you so you can get on with attacking the rangie

Good luck on the chop as well, hope it turns out as good as the rats. :D

Well after a couple of months of very slow movement on the project (re: pending wedding and apparently "important" house renovations), we (the old man and I) have cheated a little and bought a certified Ute. After weighing up the huge rust repairs and the cost of what we paid for the first one, it was decided (when the second one came up) that it would be far easier to start from a clean base. The Ute conversion on this one isnt the prettiest and it hasnt been bobbed so those will be the first two areas of concern. Few other small issues to tidy up for a warrent.
The only downer about the second one is someone thought it would be a good idea to put an RD28 diesel in to power it 8O This coupled to a dodgy clutch does not add up to blistering performance :? so the P76 may find its way into the hole in the fairly near future :D
Hopefully we should be able to make something decent out of two...

cheers

ummmm don't come near me.... I think that collecting old rangies is an infectious disease - and it well and truly looks like you got it! I already have a parts problem....

I can see it now.... "Oh and I just bought another one because I needed the seats...."

hope you live out west and have plenty of blocks to put those things on...

PS. WE WANT PICS!!! post up some pics of the new 'certified' Bob....

Hahaha

Yeah, definetly got a problem me thinks!! Used to be Zuk parts now heading towards pommies finest.... :? Try and get some pics up over the next day or two.

And no, not out west, south Auckland suburbia, One rangie and one Zuk in the garage, the Disco on the drive, the other Zuk hidden round the side of the house and at the moment the ute is at my fathers place much to mothers delight :) Sad thing is Dads looking at putting his Series one body onto the 74 Rangie chassis.... Definte problem in this family!!

Hey its not too bad...

Well it wasn't until I saw that rear window! :D

Its not unusual for two doors to look a little awkward when they are chopped - I am used to it now I think. Definitely needs the bob but with some creative bar work [a la Rangerat] it could come up ok...

I would ditch the big Nissan D though - thats just my V8 addiction talking...

Probably look at angling the cab back the other way to how it is now - should give some good space behind the seats for clothing and storage, then do a roll cage like the one in my Zuk - full external. Ive posted a photo of a bobbed rangie in my album, the plan is very simialar to what this persons done.
Once that is all done, In goes the P76 engine from the other Rangie :D
