tyre deflaters?

Post by Petemcc »

well the gf got me a sweet new air compressor for my bday (good catch she is) and now all i need to do is let the air out. how does evrybody do it? i have seen the tyre deflators on 4wdbits for $70. are they any good? how do you set the pressure you want, how long do they take? or should i just go round stick something in the valve and check with a pressure guage?

cheers Pete

get the staun tyre deflators..

they work by preadjusting them to be whatever pressure you want to run by 1/4 or 1/2 turn = certain amount of psi..

they dont take that long and much better than sittin there, one tyre at a time, when ya could be chattin or drinkin coffee..

i'd say go for the stauns.

 :D

exactly....

try about 20 psi to start with... then go from there, rockier=lower pressure and vice versa...

pea shingle ya want low pressure to get as much tyre on ground (foot print), within reason of course.

as for mud etc, ya can run higher pressures to gain clearance as the ground is softer thus more forgiving.

I have Stauns and they are great, screw them on and then help your mates air down their tyres manually, come back and yours are all ready to go, repalce the valve caps and away you go, if only pumping them up was that quick and easy

Stauns here too... fantastic. Mine are set for about 12PSI... although thats for Simexes. Normal mud-terrains I'd probably not go much below 20PSI for risk of rolling the tyre off the bead.

They take a while - around 10 minutes from memory to get the Simexes from 30 down to 12... although in all fairmess the local garages air pump takes that long to get them back to 30 again :)
