i have 1990 swb saf ,i change the oil every 5000kms and filters 10000kms
wot happens is when standing over nite next morning when cold i get a ticking for about 10 to 15 seconds and then it dissapears and u wont here it again till next morning, i adjusted my tappets at weekend 2 out the 12 tappets were i wee bit loose but not bad all the rest where fine thinking this may be the problem being a loose tappet until oil got a round them, but sunday morning ticking was still there
i use pennzoil 15w 40 all the time at service,last service was not due oil filters,but service before i had to use repco oil filters as thats all i could get at the time normally use nissan filters,repco oil filters have only done about 6000kms
is there a pressure relief vavle in the filters??,or on the block?? i thinking maybe its not holding oil up over night,
any help would be good as it cant be doing the engine any good from cold??

Are you using genuine filters, and the correct ones? Some safaris have 2 filters the same (without valves) as there is a valve in the oil filter housing. Others have 2 different filters, 1 has a valve and the other doesn't. These also must be the correct way round (tho from memory they will only fit on one way).
If you don't have the correct filters, your oil will drain out of the filters, meaning both filters have to be filled again before pressure builds up.

normally use nissan genuine filters ,execpt for last service(filters repco)
mine is the one that uses the same two filters,and i also use a engine flush every 10000kms,so the valve in the oil filter housing do these give problems?? if so how do you fix this problem, this is why i tried a engine flush to sovle a sticky valve,, or is it the repco filters maybe??

When i was at Nissan in Blenheim we did 2 in 5 years. The valve is about $400 from memory, so most people don't worry about it!
As long as they are the correct filters it shouldn't make a huge difference, altho using genuine if you have 2 different ones generally makes an improvement.
Repco/Ryco filters are one of the better aftermarket ones. We had a lot of troubles with the likes of Fram and a few others I can't remember the name of.
