i'm thinking about lifting the body on my 1976 rangerover but wondering if i will run into certification issues
my other option is to wait until i have major hassles getting a W.O.F and do it then just use it as a track hack though
do i need a certification for a body lift

Before I had it my rangie used to get wofs without a cert with its 2" body lift and 2" sus lift . Only reaon the guy certed it is i would not by it otherwise .
I have read a post some where that the new car constructors code will allow a 2" body lift without a cert and also 2" susp lift etc so long as it kept the overall lift within a set limit according to the weight . When I read it it mean the rangie would not need the cert . Not sure when that will be coming out yet thou .
You can always takle it out if they ping you and you don't want to cert it . If you do take it off the road , just put the reg on hold , you never know what you will want to do in the furture .

Body Lift..
We put a 2 inch lift in a Nissan....
One good reason for certification was mentioned to me by a friend of mine who is an insurance investigator...
He simply stated if you have an accident on the road, and the assessor believes that the lift may have contributed then they won't pay out..
It gives them an easy way out by stating that the vehicles handling dynamics were altered and not certified by the appropriate authorities...
Go figure...I didn't think insurance companies were like that!!!!

I have a 35mm body lift and a 2" suspension lift and folding shackles in my mu, plus 32" tires on toyota offset rims. I made the shackles myself and the lifting blocks are just white nylon. It flew through a warrant just the other day, no questons asked, just told to weld the crack in the 3" exhaust again, Guess it depends on how strict the place is. Also told my insurance company about the mods (except the shackles) and they said that's fine, even asked how much the mods cost.
Body Lifts
I agree that it often comes down to your WOF outlet, however our club has a good relationship with our certifier and he has shown us the documents outlining body lifts etc and it would appear that they should be certified......unfortunately Insurance Companies don't always have the expertise to determine what mods need certification...they only seem to look into it if things go wrong and the vehicle is inspected by VTNZ....
I often hear horror stories regarding this and so that was why I got the truck certified...

Every mod to my vehicle is notified to my insurance broker and they send me a new policy document with it noted. Body lifts and tires more than 5%(from memory) bigger than stock require certification. Tell your insurance company. I would also ask them specifically if your vehicle was insured off road. I had to change companies to get off road cover.
