knew i forgot to put something in there

yea its a 60 series cruiser box, im hoping that it has more assist than the surf box that i did have (which under normal situations was fine but with the 36"s it was a bit much of an ask for it) as it has a larger vein box on the front end. and the pump is off the same vehicle which definatly has more grunt as its a cruiser unit and made for turning a much heavier vehicle.

another reason im going this way is that the cruiser box has a forward swing which gets it clear of the compressing spring in the centre and puts the arm further forward out of harms way.

and i have a different arm on mine than nibbys 8)

yeah, i spotted the flatter arm.. ya get that off a 60 aswell wop or ya get it from elsewhere and put it on..? also, do you have to alter the steering shaft from the bottom of the column to the power steering box input? ie lengthen/shorten? just wonderin for cert purposes..

i'd like to get mine a bit flatter to increase spring clearances but i'll test the sucker first me thinks..

great progress on the 40 wopass.. keep it comin guy..

p.s... lovin the 'hey presto cleano' black paint fella..

you like that shit eh  mee toooo 8)

yea the flatter arm is off a 60 but cant remember which one, the box i got has the same arm as yours so popped it off and put my other flatter one on for test fit....have 3 bolt holes drilled now and my drill went flat so thats it for the night.will finish drilling and put crush tubes in tomorrow when i have more charge in the drill  ..... i really need to buy a decent power drill

not sure about the collumn yet, gonna get a complete 60 series steering collumn and shaft to mod into it so will let you know when i get that far  .... ohh and brake booster :D

the next issue is gonna be getting the drag link tie rod end sorted, the pitman arm has a much bigger taper hole in it for the big fat ends but i wanna put a normal tie rod in it as they are a more compact unit and redily available off the shelf, might have to get the taper bushed :? not sure yet, will cross that bridge when i get to it

That flatter steering arm is the same as my 70 series one. But if it came off a 60 then maybe the 6 cylinder model have a different arm, cause Nibbys came off a 4 cylinder one :?
Can't wait to see that puppy in action. Jeez you might be able to convince Nibby of the upgrade   So that he will have enough power to turn the 44's when they arrive

I presume you'll use a 60 series booster? The next upgrade will need to be a disc brake rear   so you will have some "slow with your go"

I'd be interested to hear about making up the metal break lines if you doing that. Need to completely redo the pipes on my diffs.

Hey - the steering shaft from the colomn to the box - did to have to customise that? Or was it a bolt in?

Just asking cause the one I've got seams too short. Cheers,

shaft from box to column was too short for mine as well, added 220mm of shed 80 tube and got one of the cert welders at work to weld it together, worked a treat  you will just have to measure your gap to get the measurement that you need to add.

brake pipes are easy if you have a pipe flaring kit

well.... i dropped the chev in the hole and its by far from just a bolt up  , im gonna have to cut out the middle cross member tube, cut and move the fuel pump tube(as it is gonna get mashed on the engine mount  ),modify the floor panel, make a totaly different suport brace for the tranny and then figure out where im going to stitch a new cross member in..... and then my rear drive shaft is gonna be VERY short...... might do a sprin flip to get a bit more length in it

ohh and make a freaky transfer case anti bash plate cos it hangs quite low

more work  nothing is ever as easy as you think its going to be...

8)

had a good fun day baby sitting my boy today and even managed to get a bit of work done on the cruiser :D

the best bit first
Image

and
Image

and
Image

unfortunatly after all the cutting and welding to get it up as high and out of the way as possible i still end up with a fair bit of transfer case hanging down  will just have to drive acordingly and make up a big ass bash plate for it

other than that it went in ok after pulled it all apart, cut it all up,re made it all and welded it all up again :? mision i tell ya

now on to getting measurements for new drive shafts, make them, get PTO sorted if i can find an old 3spd transfer PTO box..... then re wire it all, repair the rust in the arse end,cut the gaurds and sills up.....and other stuff

but im getting there :D

Those block huggers might cause some greif accessing the starter motor and oil filter if the pipes are going down the inside of the chassis rails, and the pto shaft could be a problem with the collector flange

But looking good :afro:

yea the header pipes are commin off, they were attatched to the headers when i got them, they have a really bad weld on them as well would have leaked like a siv  , very funny to look at. they are just on there for a "see how they fit" test, and yea the pipe is hard on the starter and to change the oil filter you would have to take the headers off  i would like to meet the guy who did those pipes so i could slap some sence into him

when im finished it will be a 3" pipe comming off the headers and routed down then allong the underside of the chassis rails then a ballance pipe and out thru a couple of 3" mufflers and out the side's.... should sound quite nice 8)

I've got my pipe running down under the oil filter :? you can still get the filter off and remove it over the top of the chassis rail but its a messy job with lots of spilt oil all over the exhaust

if you can the best place to run the pipes is over the top of the chassis rails and down the outside to leave plenty of room to access everything around the engine (and get all the heat away) but you've go to make up custom headers or go back to the rams horn manifolds to get the clearance over the chassis rails

cheers sadam, think im gonna use the other manifolds i have for it instead of the block hugger headers or the ram horns(i hate ram horns, they UGLY !)

popped one side on for a looksee

Image

will take them to work and bead blast them and a lick of paint they should look ok

also finished the steering and had a mock fit up of the shifter, will have to make the stalk a bit longer...or grow ape like arms
