Inland marlborough track conditions?

Post by SKR »

I'm interested in ford/track conditions for a single stock standard vehicle in the follow area's

Branch River to Greigs Hut, looks like it pissed down in january, wondering how funky the fords have got???

Teme Basin from Waihopi/Avondale road.

Leatham past Caves Hut and what the fords are like to the top.

Waihopi past the gate at Stronvar to top/Blue Mountain Hut.

Cheers :D

You can't travel past the third hut up the Leatham valley now. It has been blocked off just past the hut

Not really going up to Greigs Hut until mid July (good ice climbing)

Teme Basin, Waihopi and Leatham soonish... next couple months.

Caves Hut this saturday to develope a beautiful limestone bluff into a awesome climbing crag as Blenheim has SFA rock climbing, but lots of mountaineers???!?!?.

Waihopi looks sweet until you get past the second homestead (thanks Google Earth!!!!!! ) What the farmer like, charge anything???

Never been on any of these tracks, and not sure who owns the farm up the Waihopai. Might be worth giving him a call.

Would that be Lower Gordon Hut???
Would I need a snorkel for a standard 4x4 in respect to the fords??? Don't have one anyway, that list of shit I want is just getting bigger and bigger.... :D

Glazebrook Station at the top of the Waihopai Valley is owned offshore by a Yank who won't allow any access. Lots of pissed off hunters who have to use helicopters to get to the DOC land beyond!

In my opinion - this offshore ownership is the greatest threat to land access. Different culture....

So boltcutters for Waihopi, sweet

That's a pity, has anyone got onto Access NZ, FMC or (can of worms) Minister for the Environment????? Looks like cool tramping country up there.

I know a few people, who know a few people in Blenheim who might be able to raggle access. Hhhhhmmmmmnnnnn.....
