Turbo boost pressure

Post by billyvanboheman »

Looking for some info on where to mount a boost guage, not the guage it's self but the reading end of things, and how do I adjust the pressure?

You will find a air pressure sensing device somewhere, probably connected to the inlet manifold, that is used to let the ECU know when there is too much pressure. Well thats the case on the toyo 1KZ-TE engines anyway.

You just tee into that line and run the Boost gauge hose back to the gauge.
Not sure how you can increase boost easily thou but someone here will know.

And now a question for the forum from me.
My diesel is controlled with both fuel and air via the TPS and throttle butterflys (2 of them, one large and one dia 20mm), similarly to a petrol engine. The wee tube that sensors the inlet manifold pressure for the ECU is beyond the butterfly, and that is where the boost guage is going to be tee-ed into. Do I need to purchase the gauge that reads both boost and vacuum unlike the typical diesel application?

cheers John

there will be several vaccum (and boost) lines one goes to the wastegate actuator on the solenoid on the side of the turbo do not tee into this one!

If you follow that rubber line back to the manifold (there will be some form of actuator valve it goes through too) you will be able to Tee into it there as close the the manafold as possible (4-10 cm) from the manifold.

On EFI cars there is also vaccuum at the fuel pressure solenoid, there may be something similar on the turbo diesel pump not sure.

As far as more boost a simple bleed valve at the wastegate actuator will be the easiest, but you have to be very carefull and put it in the right place.

I think I would make sure you have no boost leaks first, as this is very common (follow the turbo outlet pipe round to the manifold looking for bad join's cracks ot anything else)

My boost gauge is in the line going to my wastegate accutator from the injector pump.

A simple way to up pressure is by spacing out the waste gate actuator. I did mine today, uped boost from 9 to 11 psi in about 5 mins, and cost 4 washers.

Alex, if you'd like to have a look, pop round.
