94 Surf Tailgate Motor

Post by PAID »

Kia Ora Koutou

the back window in the Surf has finally given up.. stopped working with the in-cab switch a few months ago, but has recently stopped working with the key as well

i assume it's stuffed at the cab switch and the motor.. that said, anyone have a source for a replacement motor? have been told also, that the cab switch gives up a lot.. so looking for one of those as well

thanx in advance for any help given

You can often spray contact cleaner on the cab switch and get them to work again, you might be lucky.

Whenever I come across a Surf being parted out I grab the rear window switch....

Unusual for the key to fail as well, they are very simple mechanism's and easy to get out and test.

If you have a multimeter you can test it quite easily. With the window up from inside the truck pull off the carpet panel and remove the metal liner. There is a spring clip that holds the lock in place and a plug nearby to disconnect the wiring.

Check the continuity of the key wiring first before doing anything else, it could well be the rear window wiper or window switches making the truck think it shouldn't allow the window to be wound down.

Possibly the rear window relays may have blown up.

thanx guys.. i'll have a good look after work tomorrow

the reason i suspect the motor is gone though, is because when i turn the key i can hear a click.. just no movement.. so i assume the relay is still working. it's not a mechanical click.. it's an electrical click.. if that makes sense

i'll dig my multimeter out and track the fault

thanx for your help guys, it's given me a place to start

keep the ideas rolling

Hey Trev,
The link doesn't work
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
