Is anyone wanting to sell a V8 to go into my FJ40?

Keep your eye on trademe and you might pick up a bargin, sometimes it can be better off buying a donor vehicle and swapping the engine over then selling off the rest of the parts coz don't forget you need an adaptor kit and engine mounts and exhaust etc. When I did mine I brought a running fj40 from whakatane for $2k with a good engine and a dellow adaptor kit in it. (a bit suspect driving it back to wgtn with no reg/wof etc but I pulled it off). I sold a few bits and I've still got the complete diffs and gearbox sitting here that I should be able to get a bit of money back on. :wink:

no expert, but i'd agree with sadam. keep your eyes out for a bargain truck and take what you need and sell on the rest. but like i said, am no expert - am about $13,000 down that hole already and we're still not road-worthy. sometimes i reckon it pays to wait - and that might mean 12 to 18 months - but someone is going to be selling their pride and joy on TM for a lot less than it cost them to put together, sad but true. might be be me next! i could have had more truck (if you believe all the sales pitch) for about $5000 less than i already spent. but at least i know exactly what i'm getting. and wondering WHAT AN EARTH WAS I THINKING, buying a 2.4 TD surf when i got here?? someone should have taken me outside for words

I'm afraid of heading in the same direction. I don't want to make debt but haven't got the patience to wait for stuff. I might stick to the 2F for now, its still running 100% and wait for your truck to come up on TM, it must be a nice one

just sold my 283chev motor, graeme berry made conversion kit, 4 speed, motor mounts etc, a complete setup out of my old fj 40 for 6 hundie, just didnt have any reason to keep it any more, bargins are out there, it is who you know if you want the best deals

Jeez, 600! Hell, did you advertise on Trademe? I hope something like that comes up soon. So the 4 speed was strong enought for the motor.

it will be when it's all back in one piece. it's gonna be a $15,000 truck that's worth about $8,000.. :shock:
