Big 15" tyres

Well, I finnaly got my LN130 with 2JZGE going

All legal now.
Anyway, I'm looking at getting bigger tyres for it as is only got 265/70/15 on it. It will be use on the road most the time. It already got 3"-4" body lift.

So what tyres option do I have and I got 15x8" rims. Looking for something more for show rather than off road capablility and cheapies?

What are those normal MT tyres handle like on the road?
Or is there anyone want to get rid of some big tyres at cheap price?

oh, also, I have the std rim with tyres on it, can do somesort of deal with it plus a run bearing 2LT motor that out from my LN130.

The engine and tyres is in Auckland.

I've got 35" MTR's and there great!!

btw, Does it idle properly when cold?

Yes, mine idle properly which piss off my mate alot as his doesn't! on his Hilux doublecab!, He even trying to change the ECU around and other small stuff, which make no different.

I heard that above 32" tend to break front axle if go off road?

on an ln130 (surf with independant front suspension) the front diffs are weak and especially with the power you now have you will be able to break the front diff quite easily no matter what tyres you have. i broke my front diff with 31 inch tyres on. you will be fine if there is stuff all grip but when there is a bit of grip and the front wheels leave the ground i like to put my foot on the clutch or atleast button off. if you stay on the gas the front diff will break.

as for tyre size in my opinion i wouldnt go bigger than 33x12.5 with the ifs. they are nice and wide and you will still have about the same clearance as a safari on 35s. find out what ratio diffs you are running... i have a 3L V6 petrol (3vze) with a fair bit less torque than you and it came with 4.3 ratio diffs. when i put the 33s on it was terrible on the road at 100ks as you were pulling to lower revs. i have now changed to 4.8's and love them. the ratios are all back to standard as they were with the 29 inch tyres on and it holds its own on the open road i can pass and go up most hills in 4th and hold 100. even 4.5s would be ok id imagine but if you have 4.3's id look at changing. (4.5s would be easiest as they are most common) get they tyres first and see how it goes.

to get the 33's on you will probably need differnt offset rims that stick out abit more. i have roh 15X8 inch rims and cant remember what the off set is tho im sure someone on here could help you they.

as for cheap 33's look at the maxxis buckshot or the sumitomo serengetti i think the sumitomos are slightly better. people will say the they are shit but for what you pay i dont think they are that bad. i ran buckshots for a while and they last long on road and go ok off road.

if you want to pay a little more go for the goodyear wrangler mtrs i run them now and for the little extra you pay they are great. better in all conditions than the buckshot (maby not in soft gravel as slightly more agressive). not sure how well they wear yet tho.

Yeah according to the tag on chassic, I got 4.3:1 with no LSD. It goes ok at 100km/h but can feel the rev really low. Can't tell what RPM is doing cos I still have the diesel dash. Look at getting a V6 Petrol dash at the moment.

I would agree on an IFS with that much power. I'm changing the diffs to 4.8s and once I have the cash getting crawler gears as I can't go slow enough with 35's & the auto.

Mines beam axle front and back so hopefully I wont destroy the drive train. Gave it a thrashing at easter on the rocks... all good...

You can get either a 4cyl or 6cyl gauge cluster, the Toyota tach has a pot on the back of it that allows you to calibrate it.

I have just done the same swap for my 1UZFE LN130.

Oh cool!, thanks Matt. So all Toyota tach have that option? So I can possibly get a tach off normal petrol car/sedan?..

Anyway, I temporary installed my 5" monster tacho today before I drive the Surf back to Palmerston North from Auckland... and at 100km/h at 5th gear - 2600rpm
4th gear - 3050rpm

Very very quiet to drive as no knocking diesel noise or tyres noise, just intake noise from the pod filter... :twisted:

It accelerate very very well, can use 3rd gear to pass cars, and speedo goes up to ~140-150km/h :shock:

at rev around 6000rpm.
Is kinna scary! and intake noise change and sounds like supercharger noise at very high rev!!

Saw a nice Land Cruiser VX? on the way back on the way to Matamata, with snorkel, bull bar, snorkel, mud tyres, pretty sure is turbo diesel as I can see puff of smoke when accerelate, number plate MUDDE 1? Forum member?

The Hilux/Surf/Hiace all appear to use the same cluster so they should be interchangeable.

As long as it was an EFI vehicle to begin with then it should be compatible, carb'd and EFI run different signals to the tach so you can't swap them.

Not sure if all cluster's have the pot, I don't see why they would put them in just Surf's though. To check it you have to take the cluster apart to see the insides, it's a tiny little white pot.

On the Prado the rev limiter kicks in (I have no tacho as yet) at 95 in 1st when theres just me in the truck... and second keeps going and going... putting 4.8's in which should fix the pulling away problems I have... it takes its time getting to 50 but then goes like a rocket ;-)

What diff ratio you got and what tyres size? Also what gearbox in urs?

I haven't try hitting the rev limiter on mine yet..

4.3's with 35" tyres and an A343F Auto. I hit it by accident... honest :twisted:

after I found mine rik decided he should find his, he has a lux with manual, 2jz and 35's...

Mine haven't got massive tyres.. just the 265/70/15. and 4.3:1 std diff. Looking at getting bigger tyres, but worry about breaking front diff when i decided to go for some offroading...
I still got the standard R150F box.
What sort of fuel you using? I been using 91, and just trying out bp 98 today see if it give me better k's.
I get about 12-13L/100km.

I was using 91 getting 17-19l/100km now on 96 and get 16-18l/100km. my truck weighs in at 2.4 tons though... engine runs much smoother too..
