Hi Toyking, cousin to the almighty Bruce Hughes I take it
Yes you guys certainly have it sorted when it comes to winch challenging! :salut:
Yes, the A-frame dosn't need a panhard, but neither does the setup I am running, see below, the top links are angled in to form a triangle and the bottom links angled out to form another, thus the name "double triangulated 4 link". The diff cant move sideways in this setup either. As I mentioned in the above post, the a-frame was gonna interfere with the driveshaft, so I went with the 4 link.
As for the 5M yes thats what I'm gonna run, I know its probably not ideal, I'd like a V8 but I already had the engine before the ludicrous plan of turning the truck into a winch machine came about  I plan to add a Sprintex supercharger next year after the chassis is sorted to try and up the horses a bit

 good shit mate,5m should do the job but they produce fuckall torque, youre gonna struggle on some climbs mate,(those oil burners will eat ya for the whole 6 days)we pushed bruces rover out past its previous 5ltr bore and she didnt like it ,shes too close to close to the jackets now and getn too warm!!!!!!,i also noticed you want some 36 inch et,OVERKILL,weve tried most simexs, we found that the double block (35x12.5x15)clear the best and with the 36s(tripple block) we found we were just breaking more shit(all the boys ,rodger mackay etc are running the double blocks and we will never look back to 36s again)just some advice mate ,weve been doin w/c for years now and have succeded from trial and error and not reading magazines, but youre on the right track with using a toyota!!!!!,thats my 2c.

Interesting what you say about the Simex's, I'll be keeping that in mind when the time comes to purchase tyres. Nothing like advice from the experienced and successful :D , much appreciated.
Yeah I know I might struggle with the 5M, my engine builder man up here bilds some hardcore drag engines reakons he has some good cam grinds to give me torque and combined with the supercharger and a heavier flywheel, could be the ticket. If not, then its out with the 5M and in with a Lexus......
What are ya gonna do about the overheating problem?

 not much we can do  ,start again with another p76 and well only take it out to 5ltrs and do a bit more head work and maybe some more ecu re-mapping???? :D .any thoughts on what pump youre gona run for your hyd winch???

rofl!, how bout a little liquid oxygen tank on the rear deck
boiling point is negative 183*C that'll keep her cold!.....
The winch comes with a Saginaw high output powersteer pump, 1500psi @3.5gpm at 1000rpm, although I'm sure ya can tweak that :P
I was thinkin of mounting that on the side of my transfer case and utilise the pto gear thats unused behind that access panel, or mebbe just whack it on the front of the engine like stock.
Must...leave ....room.....for...SUPERCHARGER!!!!

winch challenge=speed

the saginaw pump is only good for prob 15-20 lpm MAX ,if you want to use this pump in the engine bay youle need to chain drive it because youre v belt setup will just slip, slip and slip!!

i reccommend using a pump thats pto driven, what g/box and tranny are you using????

you want a pump that will do 60-100 lpm period.i use a parker make, and its good for 100lpm,i have a line speed of about 40ft/min@ about 1800psi(roughly) :wink:my pump cost me about 2500.00k

you also want to look at oil cooling capacity,go for 20ltrs any thing less will just cook ya winch as we found out trying to run lite  aux line coo :D lers etc

I see what you mean, my motor on the winch is capable of 75l/min continuous and 100l/min intermittent, but the pump is only capable of pumping 13.25l/min, so I'm looking for a new pump
I am going to use the standard hilux g-box and geardrive transfer case ("89 LN65") cant remember what codes they are, probably mount the pump on the side and use the blanked off pto. CNC up some housing for it to bolt to the side.

slotted rotors

Post by Heath »

What is the cost of slotting the rotors as I have new rotors but they are only avaliable as solids for my hilux (YN67).

How does this affect / weaken the rotors?

Is there a marked improvement with braking - Cause my braking sux.

on the subject of winches, I just watched the Dennys WC yesterday and some of the winches were bloddy fast. The electrics seemed to be slow and prone to breaking. What the hell was the winch in the diesel hilux (Black, short tray)? That winch was fast!

rotors

Post by Heath »

Tried them and they said only solids for mine (was a while ago though) as I have the thin rotor and not the big surf one.

what do you mean ( the thin rotor)i thought the only difference was the diameter of the rotor

Apparenlty there are a couple of thicknesses. My rotors are about 12mm thick the vented ones are about 25mm (from memory) so I would need new calipers (and probably wheels) to run the thick ones. Which would mean cert as its not just a disk swap.

Although I could be wrong, its happened before.

Ok now that I'm back and keen again I spose I better post some more shots :P
Got the rear 4 link crossmember finished, replaced the head gasket on the 7m, sorted the engine mounts, aquired a radiator and fans.

Image
4 link x member is some bits of chromoly leftovers from the cage

Image

Sexy new Alloy rad and a pair of 12" fans, looks like I'll need to move the bottom pipe out a bit further as it points straight at the pwr steer pulley
fans will be on the other side(pushing) in reality, not enuff room for a pulling setup
Image

engine mounts, 5m steel uppers, 2l diesel blocks, all bolt together like factory, just needed to drill a 6mm hole in the 5m bit for the locating dowel
Image

Couple of pics of the reassembled 7mge with the "racing red"cam covers

Got the 4 link arms for the back finished. 36 x 16 Ovarko hollow bar with a 3/4 unf FK rod end on each end.Hollow bar is probably a bit over the top, but we already had it at work.....and it will be strong as **ck!

What are you talking about?... you'll need to sleeve those with something beefy, they look a little weak to me  An OD of around 45 or 50mm should be sufficient :D

Awesome stuff... keep up the good work

 I was actually joking - that stuff will be hard pressed to bend in that application, even with the weight of the truck on it... and those heims should be well strong enough for steering on a 'Lux...

My thoughts anyway...
