Recommend tyres please

Post by motivated »

I'm looking at getting some new tyres for my work Rangie.
I'm looking for something that will work ok on the road, work very well down at the mak, and will hopefully be good enough for west coast trips.
If its not possible to find something that would fit all above conditions then I will buy another set of rims as the tyres I'm using now are new.

I'm also looking at doing a body lift. If anyone in ChCh has a rangie that has been lifted I would appreciate being able to have a look at what is needed as I prefer the "DIY" approach.

Last, I dont have a clue what to do about the suspension, any pointers appreciated.

Regards Kelvyn

Bridge Stone Desert Dueler A/t's, or Good Year MTR's which are a 50/50 tyre.
GT Radial Savero A/Ts go ok too for what they are, and are bloody cheap.

I got really good milage out of a set of Firestone ATX's 31x10.5x15.
Reasonably aggresive and wear well on the road.

Can't help with a lifted rangie to look at, but I can probably help with the body lift and suspension components.

Give me a shout on 021 637 600 sometime and buzz down to the shed, we can have a look and I can give you some ideas on which direction to take.

I just liked the picture on trademe so I stole it, I didnt build it or anything.

But, give me a couple of months and "if" I can find a suzuki I was thinking of building one. Only problem is that I haven't done anything this serious before and I currently dont have that much of a workshop any more thanks to an ex-wife taking her revenge.

I'll keep you posted on progress if your really interested as I'm looking at a suzzy with hilux diffs at the moment, half finished project.

Anyone know anyone importing cars that would consider scoring me something to order, eg : damaged rangie.

Check the Turners damaged car auctions. I have just been down to the Sockburn yard in Christchurch today and they had a couple of rangies and a disco in there. Just a thought.

The other option is to talk to Mark at http://www.county4wd.co.nzas they do specialise in damaged British 4WDs. Tell him I sent you, hes a very clued up guy and should be pretty helpful if he can be.

>>new or second hand?

I really dont care.

I missed out on a set of 15" mags (alum) which I now regret.

If I could score some good second hand tyres on rims I would be feeling pretty good, I'd be feelng even better if they were on either steel or alum mags.

I've been struggling on with the flu for the past couple of weeks and its really taken the wind out of me so I'm only keeping my head above water financially at the moment. Soon as I'm up and running at top speed again I'll be looking seriously (over the next couple of weeks).

Strange SupraLux points out turners. I've been watching the papers and haven't seen a thing at the turner auctions.

Anyone tell me the years where the running gear is the same in a rangie ,obviously the box and motor changes, but I'm assuming the box is the same housing and probably the block is the same block.

I just hate being a learner at anything.

I have been running goodyear wrangler MTR's full time for the last year and a half and they are about half warn, they have had a hard life off and on road. They may be dear to buy but they seem to be lasting well and resist sidewall impact and cuts really well. Better than BFG's I think i'll defenitly buy them again. I would stick to steel rims as they are easy to fix, But thats just me.
