Wanted: High Angle? Double Cardan

Post by H2OLOVA »

Doing the spring over on my truck and need a double cardan for the front. Matt4U gave me the D/C off his IFS Surf but it didn't have enough angle. I have currently borrowed (for mock up purposes only   ) the D/C off Nibbys donor truck (60 series Cruiser) and it seems to work fine at full suspension travel, so something like that would be great. Either reply to topic or PM me.

Cheers

Jason

Well that was too easy   Obviously want to pay as little as possible and you'd know more about what they are worth than me. How does $160 sound if you give it to me now and i pay you within two weeks.

Ti's yours for $120 - just 'cos you are using it doing something cool :), and I have three here all different lengths... 2 I had custom made and balanced for the front and rear of the MU and one stock standard one from the front of a Surf...

When would you like to grab it? The standard one is at the shed, the slightly shorter one and the much longer ones are still under the MU on the front lawn...

excellent :D :D I couldn't do all that work on Nibbys truck without having a go on my own. So after conning Goose and Nibby into some free labour, we got stuck in with the grinder :D As well as the SOA i shifted the front diff forward a bit by rotating the springs and am in the process of sorting the steering. Having a go at shifting draglink behind diff, a "Jas" version of high steer :? but we'll have to see what Mr Martin thinks about that before i get to involved  Heres a couple of crap pics taken on my phone of it sitting on Roc's nice big 39.5 inch tyres 8) 8) .

Man i want some........but i'd need to buy your V8 just to get the truck to move

The slip yoke on my trucks front D/Shaft seems quite long in comparison to Nibbys 60 and Matts Surf so its really only the D/C i need (and possibly a drive flange?) but i will measure my mocked up length and see if you have anything close. I'm keen to get it asap so will get the measurements tomorrow.

Its actually quite easy. Just a bit of grinding here, some cutting there, a bit of welding over there, tighten up those bolts and away we go

I bought a written off 70 series that i was going to mock everything up on, and then transfer it all to my truck. But decided i needed a weighted chassis to make sure everything was going to work properly and get my diff angles right. So i now have a spare set of front and rear diffs ready to have new perches welded on, so once your ready give me a yell (i'll be fully qualified at SOA on Cruisers by then  ) By the time i finish, it will owe me about $800 including about $400 for cert.

BTW when i set up the front diff angle, with the double cardan, i just point the diff flange straight at the gearbox flange?? or should this be set up the same as the rear, and try and keep both flanges parallel? Any advice here is most welcome.

This may help with the angles, are you doing a shackle reversal?
Track bar on rear diff?

No shackle reversal. i figure its alot of work for a unknown outcome. After reading up on this, it seems some people do it some don't, so i'm gonna stick with what i know works (for now anyway   ) and i'm not sure about the track bar. I don't think the mighty 3B will be putting out that much power   but when i do the LS1 repower..............

We will have to get you going harder J. You obviously have never inverted a leaf spring. (tis not a good look!). Still, your rig has done some ugly shit, and if you don't have an issue with turning springs inside out, then yeah, stay with what you know works.
How long do ya reckon you'll be?. Thinking a run into Okuku gorge or Ashley gorge could be a go before winter really sets in. (Just gotta finish my new trailer for rokmutt).

I'd like to think i'll be driving it within the next week (maybe not certified but i wont tell anyone if you don't  ) so i'll definitely be keen for a run up there. And your forgetting that i drive like a Nana (with some anti inversion shackles) so spring inversion wont be an issue for me. And since your lending me your 39s, i'll let you borrow my 35s but only if your a good boy............

No worries dude, and this month only as a special just for you, they come with a 3 step ladder for attending to that small issue of access to the cab.

(Oh and I'm not one to gossip, but, I hear through the grapevine that a certain person of questionable heritige, has purchased some 40" boots for his d'cab lux. :P Hmmmmm, wonder who that could be????? :P :P :P . I think it could spell trouble for the rest of us   )

Keep the UJ dead straight... diff flange pointing straight up the shaft... the double cardan cancels its own vibration out...
