in all honesty i have never put a timing light over my 2f,
new plugs, points, condensor, ten start it and screw the adjuster till it sounded happy then left it at that

only once had to adjust it and thats cos i was running a 50/50 mix of petrol/deisel down the beach and it was pinging like a bitch

points gap at about 0.016"-0.018"...by eyeómeter 8)

take it off,unscrew.

and adjust this screw to get it running nice, you can advance and retard from here but not much, if you have to get the timing from way off you will have to adjust by turning the dizzy. but ive never had to do that.

Hey i was told by a mate to set points gap at about 0.016"-0.018" as a start then get dwell angle to 41 degrees or do you just as you say "eyeometre" it

Wondered what that was on the side, Ta

iv'e never pissed around with getting the dwell set up, just set the points gap right at the pinical of the lobe on the shaft, and then screw adjustor to get it running nice. you can mess with the dwell if you want but i have never needed to

Did many tweaks on my old dual fuel 2F. In the end did the same as Wopass, set points gap, checks plug gap and adjusted timing till it sounded good. Mind you I did put a light on it and the indicator was way past the wee viewing hole on the flywheel cover (advanced LPG pretty far).
For those basic motors, if it sounds good and starts well then thats the setting.

exactly

with the lpg all you do is screw the dizzy advanced untill it starts pinking under full load pedal hard down then back it off a bit and your done, or off a bit more if your duel fueling.

ohh god dont use the mitzi GTO 2ltr motor ! a mate of mine spent hours and hours and hours and lots of money trying to get his one running well with a few horses.... when he did finaly get it to produce horses it blew up ! major P.O.S !

tell him to put a early 4age 1600 twin cam in it. much better engine and way easier to get cool parts for

and hurry up with the 40 !
