Nice, I like the tell tale 2 1/2" exhaust sticking out the back.

My mate up heres got a 84 twin cab with a 350 in it, can't remember if it's got a TH350 or TH400 auto. He's had it for 2-3 years and although he's a nana driver he's never broken anything yet, still got the hilux diff's and axles in it.

watch the temp if its still running the stock hilux radiator coz chevs like to run hot

as far as vehical sety up goes, the plan is safari or patrol axles , coils, 36" simex ,ranchos, PTO winch, roll cage an snorkel, lokkas, bar work. thats in 6 months. the main prob is i cant do alot untill i find myself a safari or patrol

I'm sure I read somewhere (perhaps in a mag or something) that the winch comp trucks had to have the same make stuff in them so i would check about those axles just to be 100 % sure. Most likely I am wrong but something tells me you should check. PM jungle, he is heavily involved in that scene and should know or be able to get you a copy of the rules. Of course I'm talking about the kiwi challenge not the regionals etc which are more laxed in the rules..

Looks like a good project . Nissan diffs the way to go just make sure you strengthen the front diff balls top and bottom and a strong back along the diff . I keep bending then . If you dont have the room for the strong back , fit hyd bump stops aprox $300 each i think,I am saving for mine . I have the pto winch in my lux as well ,good option mount it in the rear. Lots of work ahead of you . Cheers Klem

Bruce Huges runs landcruiser 80# running gear, late model hilux body with lexis v8.I think the rules have soften abit over the last few years, you can change wheel base lenght now which you couldnt do a few years back.

I would like to build a winch rig but 2 things stop me.

1 Money to build it in the first place.
2 Money to repair it after each event and being able to drive

Good luck with the build, lots of work and fun there

In the 60series Hilux I've been told that the 2wd cab is the same as a 4wd cab the main difference is in the front gaurds (so just swap 4wd ones over)

Just thought that might help broadern your options a little and you might be able to pick up a rust free tidy 2wd cab easier than a 4wd cab
