You would need hooks on the side Jerry, they tended to fall on their side often

yep, tell me about it, at my 21st, my brother had one, he was bringing the berr etc down the hill to the venue and it tipped over! - No breakages though!

So Jerry should be OK!

Well done Jerry. Looks great, will be lots of fun, we look forward to seeing it out and about. Is it not strange that it does not have tow hooks already on it, as it looks as though it has been 4 wheel driven before?

Thats true and compared to a 1KZ it costs 1c more a K to run :-D Its just scary cos most of the cost is at the pump.. first time I filled it with 93 it cost over $100.... when I last filled it with diesel it only cost me $60... was almost 18 months prior tho

Update:

It got a WOF yesterday

Andrew came over yesterday and had a good look at it, a small list of maintence things to get done (which I was aware of)...nothing unexpected.

He says Its easy enouth to wind up the diesel pump and turbo to give it more power which will be handy when the front and rear (and side) bars go on and the hooks.

will post up some better pics later.

NICE TRUCK!!!!!!!

We have three SWB Pados in the collection and they all go really well. All three have the sway bar removed and it makes a noticable difference off road and bugger all difference to road manners.

One of em is a 2.4 EFI with 150,000ish on the clock and still goin strong.

But:

Set aside or be prepared with $1200 for a new head. It is only a matter of time untill it will need one. They ALL crack. Makes no real difference what year although the 1990 thru 1992 EFI's where suppost to be the better/heavier built engines, its a Toyota thing, and they evantually crack.

Not quite. They're prone to cracking if overheated. I know of plenty of 2.4 Surfs still on their stock heads after 200,000+ kays. Maintain the cooling system properly as you should do on any vehicle and you will be fine. I'd have it pressure tested to ensure it's not already cracked, never know what the previous owner was like.

The procedure for ensuring 2L-T/E reliability is this:

Rectify any leaks/perished hoses.
Have the system pressure flushed by a decent rad shop (garden hose pressure will not remove all rust).
Install new radiator cap with correct pressure rating.
Install new thermostat, Tridon brand.
Check condition of viscous fan.
Install big bore exhaust (lower backpressure = lower EGTs. More power too.)
Install intercooler (lower charge temp = higher charge density = lower EGTs. More power too.)
