No, I wont let sleeping dogs lie when I have apoligised, yet stones keep getting throwen.
A mistake was made, and an apoligy was given. Yet on it goes.
you keep trying to pass the buck though, you started saying mabe if there were senior member there and now trying to say there may have been some other reason for driving through there after admitting to be the first.

What a load of PC bullshit. A man takes a photo in a ditch and is forced to make a public apology, are we turning into a bunch if sissy boys(& girls) that have to squabble over this sort of crap at night on our computers rather than talk about relevant interesting 4wd topics? If Elmo featured in the photo with half a tone of mud flying out of all four his wheels while the rest of the party were doing doughnuts on the grass in the background maybe then it could be pointed out that they were representing the 4wd community poorly. By the nature of the sport and recreation of 4wding there will always be occasions like this that will occur, just like some of us getting caught for speeding on the road. We are not meant to break the speed limit but we all have all been guilty of doing it sometimes. We wonder why land access is being taken away when we have this defeatist attitude of not sticking up for our rights to be able to use our vehicles to see the stunning scenery of our country because we might damage six foot wide track in a country that stretches over thousands of kilometers.

I admitted the offence.
And as said above, when that truck went through, and we saw it was doing some damage, we realised the mistake, and tried to minimise further damage. For the record, other then a little scuffing of the dirt, there was no trace of my truck going through, which I guess is why others tried it.

Come on guys. You're all starting to step over the line from "learning a lesson" and taking something positive out of it to petty bickering. This happened recently with the tow hook breakage issue in Wgtn and it really is unnecessary. The way people learn is from positive reinforcement and not from coming down hard on them. Haven't any of you watched Super Nanny!
Yes they made a mistake, yes they stated a number of times that they were sorry for their actions and yes there were steps taken to minimise the effects of it from a PR point of view.
The more we bicker like this the worse we all look. Keep it simple and to the point without using a heavy handed approach, and getting defensive, and we can all go away with a better idea of what the issues were to begin with.

Its not about the association at all. Its about the bad rep this forum has in the public eye in the canterbury region and obviously from your stirring remarks for, which I assume you are trying to fuel the fire, you have no regard or interest in trying to alter this - unlike a good number of forum members who do their utmost to support the site.

Come you lot, can anyone honestly say that being contientious toward where you choose to drive your 4x4 is P.C bullshit/crap

Elmo messed up, he has openly admitted this, attributing his poor judgement to ingnorence provided by inexperince.
ORE public forums are about education. I think Elmo and participants on his trip could consider themselves now educated. (about where to drive, and to exercise caution when posting pic's)
A recent trip i participated in, i didn't approve of where the trip leader and others were driving, i refused to drive that part of the trip (followed by much ridicule for standing my ground). All i could do in that situation was make the other participants aware of the reasons for not driving in that area and to make sure any photo's or vids are not posted in connection with ORE.
If this thread serves as a reminder to those that get tempted to drive somewhere they know they shouldn't, then they have been educated.
REMEMBER:
Even if there are vehicle tracks and it looks like a play area, think twice before charging in, it may be a historic site, protected area, private land, what ever; and YOU may get labled as the vandle and as a result bring the organisation you are assicated with into disrepute.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do members of the public know to contact you? I wouldn't know how to contact you, let alone a little old lady walking down the road. There were no ORE decals on the trucks in the photo's that I could see, so how would they tie ORE into this?
Just curious, as there seems to be a lot of chest beating going on.

Because those same people have previously registered concern in respect of other issues.

ORE is a public forum, the activities of ORE and the ORE Association are monitored.
I shall not contribute further within this 'Defending the ANZAC trip topic' as it is now akin to 'flogging a dead horse'. I conclude with reminder that anyone who is a member of the ORE Association is on any trip bound by the Association's ethics which reflect the NZFWDA core schema of tread lightly.

A reference on this thread was made to Treadlightly!.
Here is the code:-
Tread Lightly! On Land
Travel responsibly on designated roads and trails or in permitted areas.
Respect the rights of others including private property owners and all recreational trail users, campers and others to allow them to enjoy their recreational activities undisturbed.
Educate yourself by obtaining travel maps and regulations from public agencies, planning for your trip, taking recreation skills classes, and knowing how to use and operate your equipment safely.
Avoid sensitive areas such as meadows, lakeshores, wetlands and streams, unless on designated routes. This protects wildlife habitat and sensitive soils from damage.
Do your part by leaving the area better than you found it, properly disposing of waste, minimizing the use of fire, avoiding the spread of invasive species, restoring degraded areas, and joining a local enthusiast organization.
These are an international set of values that 4WD Clubs and ORE 4x4Assn subscribe to. Maybe this should appear on our Forum front page so we are all reminded of the set of values we should try and aspire to.
Maybe we should check this Treadlightly! set of values against the actions on the reported Anzac trip and see:-
Did we honour all of these values?
If not why not?
And how can we improve next time?
look up the Treadlightly code on http://www.treadlightly.org for more information.
It matters not what badge we wear, or what we think we may or may not belong to. If you drive a 4WD off road, and follow these basic values, we will be come part of a great 4WD world where people know we can build a sustainable and fun form of recreation for many generations to come.
Cheers

With reference to the above other clubs monitor the ORE Forum and the Assn part (those that have paid), its a well known fact that greenies and lobby groups read our posts as well (its a problem on other forums).
We've debated this to death, its been dealt with/ sorted very early on in the previous locked thread
..... can everyone stop having PMS and let this issue die...... we are all supposed to be friends ..... lets just concentrate on something else..... who's organising the next ChCh trip and/or bar night
