D1HARDs RUGGER

Well I decided to bite the bullet and go with the Rugger for some off raod mods.

I have added some new rims and tyres and some new leafs and shocks.
Its heaps better but still not the greatest...but hey I'm a "Shiney" :lol:

Any comments or ideas...??

Don't know to much about the old rugger but it looks good :wink:

should be up for some descent trips with that.

Is that http://www.gronz.com on the windscreen? Tried it and it went to germany :shock:

theres some nice cheap winches on trade me at the mo

no idea what the quality of them is like

im picking that all you would need is about a 6000lb one for the rugger, bout the same as a zooki in size so... maybe talk to the zooki owners a bit about what they have and get thier oppinion

Thanks dude,how is the best way to attach winches to the front of the vehicle...?

I have noticed that most people replace the front bumper with an ARB or similar unit...possibly to avoid chopping the hell out of the standard bumper?

And while I am here I would like to say some big thanks to a few members on here who have also really set me in the right direction.
Big thanks to DJ for his Rugger/Blizzard insight,and I will be picking your brains on the V8 subject again soon...

And SUPRALUX for his help also on the Hilux front,and advice on tyres and suspension.

And also huge thanks to TOMSOFFROAD who went out of his way,and sent us up a new glow plug relay for my truck at his own expense!!!
And thanks to him my truck is back up and starting every time a coconut.....LEGENDS guys!!

Its one thing you realize when you leave NZ for a long time and come home is just how NZ people rock!!!...

We need a "Shiny" forum meet...

no idea how to hook a winch to the front of those trucks mate sorry

never done one

i imagine it would be fairly simple once you got the bumper off, im guessing there will be somwhere to bolt a big ass plate onto

check the interweb thingy, bound to be someone who has done it and posted the howto's and how not to's....

Easiest way i have found is to remove all of the factory bumper so you can get right to the chassis rails, and then mount the winch and then build your bumper around it. If your chassis is like boxsection then you will need to use spacer pipes inside the rails to stop thenm collapsing, or if its a channel then compensator plates on the inside of your rails. Try for three bolts per side if you can. I usually make the cradles out of 10mm plate or 50x50x6 angle, depend on what you can get at and how far your winch is from your mounts. Hope this helps, but probably not :wink:

no problems
look at dilligaf pics for bumper design. no weight, as its pressed steel its very strong, and if you look at a toyota surf mounting you may see thats its more or less the same as a Rugger but larger. In the next few days I will try?? to post some more V8 blizzard / Rugger pix in user gallery

Looks good, we have a guy in our club with a rugger and on the Haast trip it was awesome. Went everywhere the tough trucks went with no problems. Just got hung up on the rocks in the Hope river. It did rip off a tow hook trying to pull a LWB Prado tonkatoy out of a mud hole. The Haast trip is rated grade 5, camel trophy shit.

yep done it didnt hurt a bit :lol:

although pix dont show the motor mounts and gearbox mounts (got to keep some secrets??) there is a few on the other bits and pieces will post more when I can

Hey how did the front lift go with that,according to G-GUY motors if we lift the front any higher the steering shaft could come out if the front got airborne...

Is there any way around that DJ?

fit late model (hilux I think ,as I just ratted thru a pile of bits until I came across one with a longer spline) steering shaft as its longer.
