Hi all,
I own a Cruiser with a 3B. Its done about 170k ( according to the speedo). I have just changed the engine oil and cause I wasn't able to get the usual brand of oil I used another although it exceeded the rating of the previous brand. I went from GLH to GLI same viscosity. Its never used any water or oil - but since the change I have been adding oil - less than half a litre but this is unusual ? Both brands of oil were reputable well known brands. Any one any idea ?
Cheers,
Pete
3B engine oil
GLH, GLI??? Presume you mean cg, ch ,ci as they are common diesel ratings, Alot of the new i ratings are for euro rated late model diesels and have very high detergent levels , to cope with high soot level these engines produce. The old 3b ,doesn't need it, and on mid to high mileage motors , they can make them use oil, as they clean out the motor to much, and motor tolerances aren't as tight as newer motors.I got caught out , few years back , used to service mine at a mates workshop, and he upgraded to a higher grade( high detergent) ch/ci euro spec oil for the trucks he was servicing and my 3b went from using nothing to using oil 1/2 to 3/4 litre. switched back to cf/cg rating and within 10000km the motor had settled down to normal and has not missed a beat since, nz new and has just under 250000km now , oil drops 1mm if that between 5k changes.
