PTO Drive Broken

(Jerry is so going to laugh when he reads this, anyway....)

I have recently purchased a Rugger (sold my landie for it), and it came with a pto winch. The winch came with all the parts to set it up, from what i can see anyway, however there is one problem.

The pto drive that gets bolted to the rear of the gearbox has a crack in the housing, which goes from one side to the other(this is the side of the housing that faces the gearbox), right below where it is bolted to the gearbox.

Now can i get that welded up, and it will be ok, or should i get another housing for that side only? Im not exactly to sure how the drive is put together, and what is the best option to solve this problem, hence why i am asking for some advice from the knowledgable people here.

its no good , you will just have to sell the winch to me so i can put it onto the PTO on my rug..

sorry im no help at all , have just come in from the garage and been looking at the hole where my winch should be ....

Yeah i was doin a bit of that today, looking at the hole where the winch should be, hence why i posted the question about the broken drive.

I'm sure Toyota can source one new :lol:

not sure on the cost there :oops:

.... I was told its should be Alloy and should be able to be welded. when you put it back on you should make a protection plate for it as it hangs a bit low and vunerable to rocks etc, giving the body a lift may help too...

These aren't very common either, theres someone on here with a diff lying round with a LSD in it (if you can get your sticky hands on it)

.... I'm assuming you are making new barwork at the front to hold it as the factory "shovel" bar really sucks weight and front wheel angle wise.

Yeah the bar its on now is a bit big all rite. I want to put a set of bull bars on it to, so if i can get the winch going, will try and incorperate it into a nice new bullbar. And definitly i will put plates underneath the drive to protect it.

are you talking about the truck or the winch?

A LSD would be great, but i bet it would cost me a bit!!

the PTO housing is more than likely cast alloy and yes can be welded but would have to be done by a preofesional, i think that heat treatment pre and post weld would be needed to keep it strong....not sure on that tho

look into it, much cheaper to weld yours then buy a new one.

not sure if he has a ally capable tig but if you go and see/ring Paul Wright at alpine engineering (think its in turangi), hes a top man,i used to work for him about 6 years ago. awesome guy and does really nice work. if not he will probably know someone that can.
Hes a no bullshit kind of guy, very honest and to the point.

If you get stuck let me know and I can ask Brian Howat here in Welly, he has the experience and equipment to weld it. Brian builds 4wd competition trucks :lol:

PS Picking up thst switch tonight (along with some other toyota parts) :wink:

Im still a little bit confused as to how i am going to mount it. Do you know of any information that would assist me in doing so? Is it the toyota vaccum switch or the manual version?

Toyota vacuum switch, to replace the faulty hatsu one.....will need to rewire and run nuw air pipe, PS mount it near the firewall....the Daihatsu ones are prone to mud sitting next to the t-case....

will txt u tonight when I see it.....should be just a straight swop....

Ok sweet as. Strait swop? As in i send down the faulty one? Or it will fit right in ?
