Cloggy_NZ wrote:8 tons doesn't equal 10000lbs which is the crazy thing in all these tow hook debates. We are using snatch strops with an 8 ton rating on hooks which are only rated to 4536kg or 4.536 ton.

All my snatch straps and ropes have a breaking strain of 8000lbs or less...?!??!

You had me doubting myself there for a minute Bill.... :?
But I went out to the garage to double check.

That is an 8000kg strop or 8 ton or a whopping 17637lbs.
Seems to defy logic to use one of these on 10000lbs hooks.

I wouldn't knowingly use one, I like to have the strop break before the hook...

The other thing is on some asian ropes etc they say 5Ton but over there 5 Ton = 5000lbs not 5000KG

My only snatch strap is 8000lbs... my main 10m rope is 10000lbs but is not used for snatching..

Can't be too hard to figure out where the problem lies. If you have the front hubs locked (manually) and you jack up either one of front wheels can you spin them by hand? And if you can is the front driveshaft turning at the same time?

Would you believe I chucked out a set of manual hubs of a FJ40 not so long ago :(
They may have fitted your truck.

Jerry
If the hubs were actually locked then is the drive-train engaged further back? Perhaps one of the vacuum lines may have come off the diaphragm 4wd actuator? Are the two buttons, 4wd & Front hubs, each turning on a separate light on the dash?

Suggest you check in both 4HI and 4LO separately as the 4lo will engage 4wd without the 4wd button pushed . Put into 4wd and then drive a little and park on a decent surface.
Chock vehicle to avoid another of our friend’s dramas :D and then jack one wheel so it is just off the ground or preferably on an axle stand.

Crawl under your truck and attempt to rotate the front driveshaft. If you can that means that the front drive has not engaged and the problem is likely to be at the actuator diaphragm, a dia. 80 device located just in front of the Transfer case on the LHS. These vacuum lines go to two solenoids located above the brake booster on the driver’s side of the fire wall on a 1KZ-TE versioned Prado.

Hope That helps
