toyota surf 85 rover v8
hey i have a 85 surf with rover v8 in it has anyone on here done it befor if so what did you do for cooling as there ant much room
Will a standard LR Discovery V8 radiator not fit?
It will never overheat with one of those in it.
A somewhat smaller radiator but just as good are Commodore VB - VC V8 radiators. You can get these as heavy duty 5 core models. Had one of those in my Holden Sunbird running a very highly modified 358 ci Chevy without any problems and with just two small electric fans to assist the cooling.

1992 Land Rover Discovery V8i, 5 speed, 12000lbs winch, Salisbury rear, 110 front, 65mm spring lift, dents in every panel, Rallywoods pinstriping.

I think Range Rover a/c condensor fans were a twin pusher setup? maybe three or 4 of those fans in front of a good rad might do the job... worth a look...
Talk to Nigel tho, like he said, it took him a long time to get it right on his truck, but once he did it never overheated again... no point re-inventing the wheel...

Cheer Nigel
Was that the first one...... or the 2nd one that didn't have the big coast lie down

A mate of mine put a 4.4 leyland into his surf, and he had some issues with heat as well. Can't remember what his final fix was, but he spaced up the bonnet hinges for a while to let heat out of the engine bay.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
My old hilux DC with 3.8 chev had cooling probs (to the extent that I fitted a second gauge to keep an eye on it) but when I lifted the engine I had to cut the bonnet and put a huge scoop on it (so the air filter poked partly through) the hole was cut almost to the outer dimensions of the scoop. The benefit of this was a definate increase in air flow but the big difference was when I fitted a shroud to the radiator. I did have some work done to the rad also but that was more a case of a tidy up than cooling (didnt make much difference).
yeah had raditor
done think it cost me to much $550 but my fan kissed it and well yeah got a scoop works but short term fix as in summer it just to hot up the bombing range lol missed thins summer as it was striped to chassis!!!
only got bout 65 70mm be tween water pump pully and rad

I have a similar problem with my Lexus Surf.
If you can't run an engine driven or puller fan with a shroud then you will struggle to keep it cool.
A single 16in fan in front of the radiator is about the biggest you will fit in there and gives more coverage and has more CFM than two 10in fans.
A thicker radiator when you are running pusher fans will actually reduce their efficiency.
I am contemplating shifting the radiator forward and running a puller fan in a shroud.
Matt.

yeah so am i
but i want it to look good i dont wanna cut the support out in front of rad cause i need to get cert, so moving rad forward as much as pos seems to be the answer hmmmm but how?
