Spigot....????

It may depend on what bell housing your using and how far the end of the input shaft goes into the crank? My crank had a couple of bushes in the end of it, one at about 12mm the same size as the end of a petrol gearbox input shaft and another bush inside that to neck it down to a diesel inputshaft (my engine origionaly had a diesel gearbox hanging off it). I removed the diesel bush and my input shaft fitted into the second bush snugly and at the right depth.

My mate had one he was doing at the same time for somebody else with a chev bell housing and homemade adaptor plate and he turned up a bush to hold a std cruiser spigot bearing inside the wide opening in the rear of the crank, the part thats about 50mm or so

You probably want to see how deep your input shaft goes into the back of the crank before you work out the best way to do it?

got the graham berry racing bellhousing. the end of my crank has no bushes in it whatsoever, so might be a quick trip into work tomorrow to spin up a bush to take the cruiser spigot bearing.

:thumright:

just give the input shaft a good measure up first to find out exactually how far it goes into the crank to get the bush at the right place... I'm pretty sure there'll be lots of depth left to fill with grease behind the bush to keep some lube in there

I just whipped the gearbox out of my truck to get you to get a better shot of the back of my crank

I'm just using the bush you can see in the end of the crank, the engine had been in a 40 series crusier for 22 years before I got it and there didn't appear to be any problem with using the bush and not a bearing

Bush would be less likely to fail through seizure from exposure to mud

well after spending most of the day on/under it, the engine and box are all bolted together and in the cruiser.....

few issues on the way, engine way to close to firewall with it on origanal mounts so.... move the lot forward by about 3-4 inches to give clearance from fire wall and room for my dizzy

heres the box
Image

heres the clearance underneath
Image

heres the passenger side bellhousing mount mooved forward
Image

and the long shot
Image

so onto make/modding the bellhousing and box crossmember mounts to make them all fit nice and strong

then measure the drive shafts up because now with moving everything forward they wont be right anymore, then back to wiring..... and fitting my BLING bits

small progress, passenger bellhousing mount is bolted up and after a bit of welding tomorrow the drivers side bellhousing mount will be ready to go back in :D

to do list

get my drive shafts adjusted as they now dont fit
make throttle cable bracket
finish the wiring
bleed brakes up
re-fit chassis crossmember for the rear diff brace
make/mount battery box
plumb up the powersteer
fit the panels and radiator and other pipes
plumb up the radiator
put tunnel cover back on and re fit seats
fit my bling parts 8)

then get the beast running and take a video of it

what have i missed ?

just wondering, seeing as you have to move the engine and gearbox combo forward a bit to clear the firewall, will you relocate the gear lever holes in the floor or modify the levers to come back and through the same original fittings? cant remember if ya wrote it already... also, whats the go with the fuel pump? she'll handle the extra? i know the old motor was a bit thirsty but thought i'd enquire.. :D

she's lookin real good fella and comin along great guns..

now stop playin with the engine mounts and get back to the wiring.. you know you love it..

Racking my brain ,but can't think of a opposite word for MUDGUARD, which is the name given to things that are SHINY on top and SHITTY underneath, but when I do the word will fit your MISSILE,  .

YOU ONLY NEED THREE WIRERS,------- STOP, GO & FASTER.

FITZY.

PS: good to see you got sorted with bellhousing etc: my one can sit on the shelf and might take pride of place in the 70# yet, .

4 weeks to pull the 2F and box out, rip out all the steering, setup the new 60 series power steering, re-wire the thing, stick the chev and auto in, rip the chev and auto back out, search and locate a manual bell housing and flywheel, sort out the clutch and spigot, stick the chev back in and make new gearbox (and engine?) mounts, stick shiney bling stuff all over it ready for a start up....

..... your timeframe's way out going by all the other projects going on around the forum

only took me 4 weeks (i think it was)to completely build the PHAATSUN,commy 3.8V6 engine/trans/driveshaft/rear end assembly/shifter/console/dash and wiring and certed on the road.... that was a mish

this one is taking waaayyyy too long :? .... and im about 2 weeks from finishing it for start up !....what the hell am i doing in here typing this drivell ! i should be in the garage welding and wiring etc ! !.......

bye bye

formed bends cut and tacked at just the right spot to make it look primo and be clear of the chassis and fire wall rib  then head off down the side into my multi tube bits to get it from 2" up to 3" with a slip join so its all removable for repairs

you can inspect it tomorrow night when you come to help
