350 vhev + FJ40

If you can wait/save for a 5.7 litre, honestly, you won't ever look back! I know the Lexus is a good strong motor and can rev out to 10k no problem. But with off roading I thought it was all about lower revs with the highest amount of torque was where it's at?? Wait, do it once, do it right. =)

Maaaaate. NOW you're talking!! As the old story goes, "you get what you pay for". It's very true.
Mattman wrote:Sorry Pete, I wasn't referring to your post, I was referring to the previous one about complete Lexus motor's being 2.5k.
My link goes to a complete Lexus on trademe.
The LS motors are wicked. My next build is an HZ Prem old school with an LS1 and 6 speed.
Matt.
Really? An HZ with late model V8!? COOL!!!
I'm talking my twin brother into replacing his P76 Leyland in his alloy jet boat to a chipped LS2. He doesn't have kids, he can afford a LS2.

I just love the chevy motors. For a pushrod motor they fly.
Yeah definitely. The old saying of no replacement for displacement is true.
6L and 300KW is wicked! Will make the old Prem fly.
It's a shame the Lexus motor's are so small, at 200KW and 4L they put out reasonable power and last forever, shame they don't do a 5.5L or something like that.
The new motor's have VVTI and make good power but still nowhere near 300KW.
The CAPA guys in Aus have supercharger kits for these motor's that allow them to put out nearly 600HP. Ridiculous!
Matt.

The new diesel motors the japs are putting out are pretty friggin amazing!! I think diesel engines will go ahead majorly as time goes on. On you tube I've seen a late model diesel powered pickup do a 11 second 1/4 mile! Now that was insane!!

Jono from Performance Metalworks ran a supercharged Lexus in the outlaw class at Whakatane, 300hp at the rear with only 5 psi boost. Supercharger setup was developed and built at Performance Metalworks, but then Andre did do the tuning.
Andre Simon from Speedtech? 300 rwhp is about 370 or so flywheel given the 4wd power loss.
The new German diesel V8's are awesome. Most of them have turbo 4L V8 diesels putting out about 300hp and massive torque.
Have a look on youtube for the American diesel dyno sessions. Some of those guys are putting out 1200ftlb of torque, amazing.

I agree with Matt.
I've heard through Aone Auto wreckers that the price of the LS1's are going down. Oh to have an LS2 in a 4X4 :bounce: :bounce:

Seriously, once you have had an injected motor you would never go back to carb's. Instant start in any weather and excellent on hills, good fuel economy and good power.

Mmmmmmm now if only I can get those lotto numbers right.....
But the Japaneese V8's are really nice neat well engineered motors in comparison and have better fuel economy, and more power from smaller capacity you still can.t beat the sound of the chev

Small block Chevrolet.
Go HERE for a treatise on same.

still cant understand why no mention of Nissan V8 donks.
How about a VK45DE: 340/BHP 333FtLbs Torque from STANDARD and all from 4.5L
Or if thats too new, the VH41DE: 266/278 came out in the Nissan leopard, capable of near infinte upgrade in horsepower, fairly good torque too.
Or.. and ignored but near bulllet proof motor that I ran for several years as a saloon car, was a Mitsi Diamante, 3.0L allsame as the GTO. 230 HP and huge torque at 1000 to 1500 rpm. the engine is the normally aspirated 6g72 and the gto is the same engine, turboed and about 275 HP. dump the twin turbo idea, and stick on a goodly sized single blower, get better engine response that way.
(I am now standing by to be shot down in flames for my temerity in suggesting a non-GM ,non-Toyoda idea)
I'm no HSV or Holden mechanic. But I know a little about Holdens. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
The "LS1" V8 is the power plant in most older SS and Clubsport Holdens. It's essentially a Chevy motor (pushrod, no overhead cams). All alloy and fuel injected. The "LS2" is very much the same motor but with massive differences in power. Generally to drive it's not only faster but smoother. Some improvements are, balanced crank, fly buy wire fuel injection management and so many other improvments I forget. But add them all up and it leaves the LS1 for dead. The biggest down side to all that is, the cost. They are expensive. Most people wanting to re-power with a V8 go for the mighty Lexus. You can buy one for $1500 complete. The LS1 around $5K and the LS2 around $9k complete.
Hope that puts you in the loop. :salut:

LS1 is 5.7 Litre and 10.25:1 compression ratio
LS2 is 6.0 Litre and 10.9:1 compression ratio
Essentially the capacity increase and compression ratio are the only differences (except fuel economy and tuning and injectors and fuel pump).
I think the LS2 has a different sump to help with the G force and oil pickup too.
LS2 is the more modern motor or go the LS7 (7.0 Litre) in some of the US stuff
The Nissan V8 is a cool motor but too hard to fit and more are sold into the marine industry than cars! or that is what I have been told.

Moriarty wrote:further to the above, the VH41DE is sought afta by the Speedway guys as engine of choice, partly cos of displacement, but capable of more than the Lexus motor. They are limited to, I think, 4.2 L??? However, if its good for them, in that sudden death environment, shouldn't it be good for us?
WOW. Over 300hp for a stock VH41DE? That does sound impressive! What's a ball park figure for one complete? I know that anything the speedway guys hook onto drives the price up. Bugger it. Try and find a cheap toyota diff head or gearbox. Cause the speedway guys use them up fast it's made them hard to find. AND expensive once you do find one.
Ohhhhhh Jezz after looking at those pictures I think i messed the front of my pants
Well maybe cracked wood anyway
I thought there were differences in the Corvette and the Holden motors V8's, be it slight ones.
Sorry to hijack, go the Chev's (jezz I cracked wood again!)

I haven't seen a VK45 for sale in NZ yet, the VH45 and 41's are available though and are about the same money as the Lexus motors.
The VH45 is rated at 280hp and 295lb/ft, the VH41 will be about 10% less than this. Same sized block, just a different stroke I think.
The Nissan motors are ugly to look at with their weird intake arrangement.
Matt.
Cass Jones runs a LS2 6L in his GQ tray back nissan(2nd in outback challenge 06)quite a machine.before the LS2 he had a 4.5L 6cyl turbo which had more power and torque but not the control ie wheel spin
