Shocks for lifted Rangie Springs

Post by lilpigzuk »

The never ending question

Since some of you have done this to your Rangies what have been your experiences with shocks. Looking on the Aussie forums, the one I thought would be alright (Rancho's, Tough Dogs) got a fairly bad review. No too concerned about on road as its only going to get used off road, but want some something that will handle the extra travel etc. Hoping to get the springs by xmas to start on in the new year..........(been meaning to start for the last 3 months :? )

cheers

Konis are good but $$$
Bilstein are good but $$$

Believe it or not the original woodheads are a good shock - you can lower your shock mounts to get the extra travel.

Easiest long travel shocks are Rancho or OME [by using a mix of Toyota and Nissan spec shocks]. Plentiful stock in the country to mix and match

Procomp are doing some long travelers for Rangies but I don't know anyone with them or who the suppliers is [might be Aussie based].

I read the bad reviews of Tough Dogs but I have to say that I have competed in a Tough Dog spec'd Rangie and although they were not super long travel they did give a really good balanced ride - if anything they were a little on the soft side which only really showed up at high speed. They are built big - so i would assume that means strong - never broken one.

Let us know how you go and write a review so we can all take that into account when we are next out shopping for shocks...

Old Man Emu nitro chargers. Great bits of kit.
But it will depend on how much lift you have given it.
Mine has 2" and the OME's are designed for this.

Yeah will be the usual 2" lift. Can I ask what sort of price range and where did you get them from??
How is the Rangie going?? No more damage :D

As always keep us posted on the mods. Another thing on the list for me too. Ive got a set of Celica seats that will go in place, so will need harnesses as well. Im guessing you will use you ladder frame (back of cab) for the top mounts, whats the plans on the lower pick ups for the harnesses - weld plates to the floor??
Cant wait till you add the supercharger!! :D

Typo on the shock price. should be 120-130 each.
You got it right, shoulder belts attach to rear frame , lapbelts connect to origanal position on seat base (sliding bit). Seats are fitted to this using some home made plates.
Will post some pic's once done.
P.S
new seats are heaps lighter.
(how did you know about the supercharger?)
