Yes and I wouldn't mind having another go at the Crazy track. Last time I made it down without too much difficulty altough some of the ruts where huge. Struggeled a bit getting back up (even with taking the sissy option around the rutted bit) mainly due to lack of ground clearance under the diffs. But with slightly larger tyres and a bit more vigour (no chance of blowing diffs any more) I might make it this time round. Depends a lot on how slippery it is on the day though.

lilpigzuk wrote:also, question for the out of towners. What facilities are there?? ie drinking water//bring our own toilet paper etc??

How far away are the nearest neccessaties (sp?) booze, food, petrol, booze?? What time would be meeting on sat morn, trying too decide whether too stay at a motel close by thursday night, as with leaving mon, assume things will wind up early arvo monday??

ohhhhh this time in 4 weeks

Best to come prepared with a full tank of gas and enough food and drink for the three day period. But as Turoa pointed out, all facilities are available but a good half hour drive or more away in either Porirua or Silverstream with a small petrol station the closest in Pauatahanui. Not sure if that will be open on Sunday or Monday with it being a public holiday.
You will need to bring the same as if you were camping in a tent. Facilities are there but very basic. Best to bring a cooker etc.
Meeting time on Saturday is up to you guys. Those of us in Wellington will probably meet somewhere between 9.30am and 10.30am, final time up for discussion to see what suits people best. Usual meeting place is on the corner of Moonshine Road and Haywards road.
Depending on what you out-of-towners are planning to do we will meet you accordingly. Let us know when you think you will arrive at the above meeting place and we will make sure someone is there to meet you and guide you in the last couple of kays. No problems there. Don't feel you need to speed or leave really early to try and get there in time.
I will prepare some instructions, including maps, showing the locations of various amneties you might require a little closer to the date. Will post a link and send those of you who I know are or might be coming a PM with the link as well.
I think after three days and two nights most of us will be quite content with winding it up early in the afternoon. But again, those with a long trip ahead might want to leave early. We'll leave it up to you guys.
The emphasis of the whole weekend will be on having fun, getting muddy and making new friends.

I think we would start driving down on Friday night after work, stay some where and finish off in the morining, prolly make the meeting place 11 or 12pm ish.

I'll tell you know though, i have two big jobs left (exhaust and brakes) a heap of small tidying up jobs (all the electrics, fuel pump, fan, frost plugs, head lights etc etc) to get through first.

Then i need to test/give it a shake down. Don't want to drag it all that way down for it shit itself in the first half hour :x

If anyone has a big trailer etc and has no where to park it, there is also plenty of space at my house to just put it in the yard for the night. Its very secure also as it is a storage facility

Thanks. The only other place I can stop/stay at on the way down is Ohakune, but that will still leave a 4 hourish drive on sat morn, which kind of sucks. Rather drive the whole way down on thursday.

Theres also a motor camp next to Turoa's place about 20? mins away from Rallywoods if you want that as an option....owners are CCVC members so will look after you....or you could pop in for a shower if you stink (otherwise we will throw you in the river)

The Welly cruiser club guys have been invited, they mentioned that we could meet them at the top (somewhere) and they would be keen to take us into Karapoti (as an Assn trip) on one day.......I'm assuming you guys would be keen......Proper hooks, first aid kits, and fire extingishers would be required....anyone not in the ORE Assn (or other affiliated clubs) would need to pay a visitor fee to cover the insurance.

Can I get an indication of numbers interested please?

Karapoti is the eastern enterance into the akkas, only accessable via motorbikes. What they call karapoti we probly call the totora park enterance. Rallywoods links up to totora park.

Id be keen for a day in the akkas.
