DONT put balance tube in.
DO find a way to stop water from goin in the shiny hole that you put oil in on the left rocker box.

looks great cant wait to see it rocking away down the track.

You will need them mirrors to keep an eye on the Nissans.........

after running it today im not at all concerned about putting a balance tube in yet, may be different when its under load but we shall wait and see.

this weeks mission is to get the wiring done and battery box mounted,right gaurd on,power steer box plumbed up and breaks bled and tested, then hopefully by the end of the week ill have my driveshafts finished and it will be mobile

that will be cool

How much did all of this cost Wopass? Did you make all the parts eg. Engine mounts etc yourself or did you get it done? Is it the standard 4 speed g/box? Did you make an adaptor plate?

FJ40BOY i try not to think about it in cost...only value :wink:

and pretty much everything i have done myself, the bell housing mounts were allready done but needed modifying for what i wanted them to do,front engine mounts were there but also needed a bit of a re-mod,gearbox mount is all mine,SOA conversion i did,power steer conversion and then upgrade i did as well,the brake enhancement i have done...... pretty much everything i did or modified in some shape or form :roll:

i would hate to imagine the cost of paying someone to do all the work i have done :shock:

that would be scary.

on a side note,i am now going to be putting the batterey in the back, dont like the look of anywhere it could possibly go in the engine bay so in the back it goes.

Ben, "aquire" some nice heavy welding cable to run your battery leads from bat to engine. BOTH leads please, it will pay off the first time you have to crank in very cold conditions or recovering from flooding the carb.

I know, I know, teaching you to suck eggs, lots of earth straps too.

Thats what I did, and then it was really easy to install a battery isolator with removable plastic key (which I have since mislaid dammit :evil:

within arms reach whilst strapped in.

after a bit of work thismorning.......

i took it for a skid round the paddocks..........

does great 4wd drifts in 2nd high :twisted:

gets a bit warm tho so am now after a fan shroud :oops:

kinda threw my old one away about 10 years ago

had a bit of inspiration thismorning wondering how to make up a filter box etc and thought.....

rip the pod filter off the Phaatsun and stick it on the missile ! Rad. works a treat !. only a temporary measure tho untill i can sort out the filter box and semi snorkel etc :roll:

The chev's tend to run pretty hot so it may take a bit of getting used to after the old 2F. When I brought my donor 40 I drove it from whakatane down to wgtn in the middle of Feb and it struggled with the 40 series radiator (it wasn't a very good one) to keep cool. With all the windows and vents open it was like driving a portable sauna inside the cab

There must be 100's of them out there running 40 series radiators but if your not happy you could always look for a 60 or 70 series 4 core radiator, I think the 40's are only a 3 core? My fan is 200mm away from the radiator with a 50mm spacer on the end of the waterpump pully and when I'm running a tight shroud it cools well and usually runs at around 1/4 on the toyo temp gague, long steep crawls in extreme tempatures brings the temp up but its still at a good safe level. I can't run it without the shroud and if I do it just keeps getting hotter and hotter till it boils over

You can buy fuel pumps with a return to tank outlet, I think they retail at around $65, and that might be an easy way to setup the return to tank line to ease the oversupply of fuel to the holley and flooding.

Everyone tells me to make sure you've got good fuel filters on the fuel line as the holleys dont like shit getting in them, I've got 2 inline filters and my idle jet's picked up a bit of shit during the last couple of weeks need's a strip down and cleaning out :roll:

well ive just been out fiddling with it and getting the charging system working,which i did and its managed to pull some shit into the carb and wont idle now :roll:

no more skids till i get that sorted and a shroud on it to keep the beast cool :roll:

Neils having a new rad made up for the new rally truck - apparantly only $350 for a brand new rad which is up to the job. Not a bad price & a good way of getting exactly what you want without seraching for ages. But I'm sure that there's a cheaper way...........
