So so far in summary

Well the story started just on a year ago with an IFS surf
Image

It was rather pretty and stock.....
I decided it needed a clean one day so.....
Image

It stayed like this for a bit, a snorkel and some SAT's were added
Image

Then oneday I came into ownership of this....
Image

Then this happened....
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

After this I needed to learn how to park again....
ImageImage

then one fatefull day the ol 2.4 died, so I threw in a 5M Supra engine
ImageImage

Then some longer front shocks, these are out of a holden commodore and are very long, 25.2inches extended and 14.5 compressed, thats 11.7 inches of travel!!!!!!!!!
Just need to lift my shock mounts and deal to my stearing so i dont break it. Then I can make some longer front shackles in teh front and get more drop out of it as im limited by spring drop.

And here are a couple quick vids or it.

Looking good 8) Hope you did the nuts up on the recovery hook on the other side

Will you need to gusset the hook mounts?

Just missed out on a beam axle surf on TM last week, would've been a good thrash about

You will more than likely bend it if you put any upward or downward pressure on it

Looking good Matt :thumright: :thumleft:

And i agree, you need to gusset those mounts. Rather too strong than any other.

I agree with the others Matt. But bloody well done putting the effort to mount the hooks up the right way. You won't regret it. Upside down and on their side is just a massive pain in the arse, so good work (but get those underside gussets on  ) :D

I have had hooks upside down for ages, its bloody horid. Also it was a good chance to put new ones on to, and they are all crome and pretty.

Well Looks like im gusseting the hook mounts, just as soom as I can get an oil pump and get my truck going again,

don't use an oil pump for a gusset, it'll look stupid

Looking good - while on the topic of gussets - put a triangle gusset between the inside plate the pin goes through and the new crossmember... behind the nut. Wayne will want to see it when you go in for cert... just to help strengthen the inside plate a bit.

Also, one from behind the hanger up to the chassis rail... he'll want that too...

Keep up the good work

Extended shackles give 1/2 the lift that they are extended by... ie: if you make shackles 50mm longer than factory then you get around 25mm of lift (basic geometry - the axle is roughly half way down the spring so gets half the effect).

Most Hilux extended shackles are around 50mm longer in the rear and 35mm longer in the front (too much lift in the front will bugger the steering stability badly).

I'm just waiting on some plates to be finished on some extended shackles for Hiluxes at the mo... once I finally get them I'll start a thread on them if people are interested...

LMAO - need to do lots of things... This whole working for a living thing really gets in the way of working on my 4WD :(

I've given up on the profile cutters... will make the shackles by hand... should have a couple of sets done this weekend... one for a very patient Brett (Insky) and Craig you can have the other set if you want em...

Steve

PS: apologies for the mild piece of threadjacking :D How did you get on making the 7MGTE pump fit? Photos?
