Warn M8000 schematic diagram

Post by albundy »

Making up a new front bar and moving the winch under the radiator. At the same time I intend to pull the winch apart and give it a good service. Anyone have a schematic diagram of how it comes apart and goes back together? Also any info on service needs and timing would be good. Any special oils/lubricants to use.

If your putting it down that low You are going to want to tap a breather into the motor housing and seal it up good. They are a right pain to seal up properly as well.

Why dont you mount it higher and set it back into your grill?? When its down low its very difficult to see if the rope is bunching up on one side and if it does they can bend the top support brackets throwing the gearbox out of alingment witht the motor.

Its all very simple to disassemble and reassemble the gearbox is just a bunch of planetry gears that only fit in one way.

HI Al,

have to agree, the higher the better, when you pull it apart you'll be amazed at how much water comes out.... (well I was)

Whats written below is for a XD9000 but by most accounts I'm sure they are the same.

Anyway 2 x 10mm bolts hold the motor end cap on. Undo them and pull the motor off. This enables you to check brushes etc.

A ring of allen key bolts at the other end - (8 or 10 I think) and then the gear end comes out of the winch drum most likely with the long drive rod. As Doddsee said, it can only go back one way.

Then if you want to get to the brake - two big allen key bolts that hold the two sides of the drum together, then it all falls apart.

If however your brake is working as it should - as in it is winding in and out smoothly and holding under load when you stop winching, I suggest you don't pull it apart as it is more complicated and can be a bugger to get working properly again. And you don't know if you ahve got it working properly until it is all back together again...

When putting back together put some oil stabiliser or similar in the gearbox end (sticky shit). Something designed for high load. Think I used Moreys oil stabiliser. Then siliconed the gearbox end to the winch to try and keep some water out.

Make sure you use a short bolt that hols the rope onto the drum - if its to long it rubs on the housing and creats a knocking - I couldn't work out this sound and was discovering filings floating about....

definately the higher the better, its hard enough crawling down in the shit  to get to the winch without mounting it lower :?

Thanks for the info guys. To tell you the truth, I wasn't thinking about muck and shit when mounted low down, I was thinking of better approach angles. Goes to show there is always a flipside to everything  Comments taken onboard, and it's already mounted as far back as it can already go, that mod is done  Al
