I hear the Hilux 4.8 LSD carrier can't use other ratio C&

Post by adventures_more »

I have a 89' LJ71 & am doing the diff's soon , they are Open & give me the shits offroad as get bogged easy , I will be dropping in a Powetrax "No-slip" in the rear , am looking at gettn a LSD for the front .i think my ratio is 4.3 ( having a look this weekend to make sure )

I have seen heaps of 4.8 ( 4.88 ? ) hilux LSD's around cheap on trademe, etc , have heard from another source somewhere that this LSD carrier can only have that particular ratio C & P & won't work with any other ratio .
Wondering if this is true or false ?

yep thats the case, better to buy the whole head with the ratio you want.

Altho i would have thought you could drop the 4.88 LSD centre into a 4.3 head, therby basically converting your open 4.3 into a LSD 4.3 using a 4.88 LSD centre......could be wrong tho
'85 Hilux crawler, 3rz, duals, 4.7's, 4.88's, ARB's, 30 spline Longfields, 6 stud SNR4x4 Histeer, Airshocks up front, coiled rear, 40" Iroks.
^^^this shite is all about to change....^^^

I have 4.88 LSD front and rear in my surf.
I took the LSD centres out of two 4.5 and 4.3 LSD diffs and fitted them into my open 4.88 diffs, you need to use the side bearings from the LSD as they are a different size to the open ones
