What you may be forgetting, is this is no different to taking, say, Denny Hulme's last race car for a gallop.
These old cars were designed from the ground up to be competition cars, competing in THESE conditions.
Its from these things, that we get the modern 'sports" car.

as well as 4 wheel brakes, rear vision mirros. limited slip diffs, 4wd, windscreens, roof, steering wheels and on and on!!!
