How do you tell precisely what diffs you have ?
Looking at ordering powertrax "no slip" lockers & a Truetrac LSD soon , except i am not %100 of what diffs are in it , toyota's are'nt my fort'e & my crappy ellerys workshop manual doesn't have it in there , unless i mised it . plus i made an inquirey to a company in the US where i will get the them they reck'n i have an 8.75" rear 8" front front , bewildered after that email .
I have an 89' LJ71 landcruiser that has a stock 2LT in it ( not for that much longer -lol ) , anyone know for sure what diffs are in this & they're size or how i find out ?

If you said that you had a Landcruiser to a Yank, he would think or a Landcruiser , where as yours is a Bundera, commonly known as a Light Duty Landcruiser.
You will have 8" diffs front and rear.
Check the axle code number of your diffs ,that is on the alloy plate on the firewall.

cheers for that info , i think my rear is called the V6/turbo 8" version as its beefed up compared to other 8" .
Just tryn to make my mind up whther to get auto-lockers front & back OR Detroit Truetrac LSD ( Gear driven ) in the front or back & auto in the other diff - hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm.................... !!!!

They will be stronger than hilux diffs as they will be 4 pin. The americans only call them v6/turbo diffs because the "4runners" are the only 4x4 thing they get apart from the tacoma. I beleive all nz ln130's had the 4 pin diffs as we didnt get pawned off with the crap engines the americans got??

i had a look at the plate in the engine bay tonight & it reads G144 or something like that - G = 8" , 14 = 4.875 ratio , 4 = 4 Pinion carrier , but strangely enough i lifted the rear end last weekend & marked the pinion , spun the wheel 10 times & it lhe mark on the pinion landed at the 3 o'clock position on the diff housing , so that means 4.3 ratio - am i wrong ? ( musat have been changed then )
Hope you didn't jack up your wagon and turn one wheel!
You must leave both wheels on the ground, mark the tyre and the ground virtical to the ground, then mark the pinion.
move the wagon exactly 2 revalitions of the wheels ,counting the number of turns that the pinion rotats ,than divide by 2.
This will be the diff ratio.

oldblue >>> I did what you said , except i turned the wheel once jacked up 10 turns & i got about 4.3 pinion turns , but then again i could have turned it the other way it landed near the 8 o'clock postion ( 4.8 ) , I think i might yank the axels next weekend & pull the 3rm member/nugget out just to be precise & see how many pinions it has , plus really curious of it's condition , think its worn but not positive .
