DIFF UNDER SPRINGS??
Hi, ive got a swb 70 series landcruiser with stock suspension (leaves front and rear). The leaves are probably sagged but i only have a couple of inches of travel between the diff and bump stops.
What i wanna know is if its dodgy to move the diff to run under the leaves for more clearance? or do i need to buy new springs?

sagged old springs are the best ! ! ! they flex nicely
SOA is a pretty big job and not that hard to do in the same sentance,if you have the know how and parts to do it you can do it in a weekend
few of us on here are/have done it.
my 40 is SOA and i love it

I'm going SOA as well - just finished bolting up diffs!
From your comments sounds like you might want to do some more research first or find a friend that can help with the welding etc

One simple option would be to try replacing your standard shackles with extended ones first. Have a go and see if you like it - real easy to set up too

I have some experience with ute lowering/airbagging so i can get the welding side sorted. I dont wanna sound like a dumbass but could you elaborate on the shackle idea??

No problem - There are 2 swing shackles on the front (standard set up) of the front 2 leaf springs and 2 swing shackles on the rear of the rear 2 leaf springs.
To get a quick easy lift remove 2 nuts on each swing shackle, remove standard length swing shackle, & replace with a new longer swing shackle. Easy!
This is a cheap and easy way to get a bit of lift. Wont be as good as SOA thou but worth a try to start with.

oh yeah i see now. cheers, that seems like the best idea for me at this stage as i dont need any big lift yet(ive only got 31s) but this should stop me from bottoming out too much. Just one more questio, how much longer should i make the shackles? im guessing too long would create some safety issues.
