Cruiser Vs Surf
Cruiser Vs Surf
Decided to sell my LN61 surf to upgrade
Toying with
Mid 90's 3ltr turbo Surf (1kz) auto, snorkle, decent wheels and fairly standard
Mid 80's 3.4ltr turbo MWB Cruiser (13bt) with locker, snorkle, winch, decent wheels, bars etc
Both simular price
Surf is more modern, better road truck etc etc
Cruiser is more capable, features etc etc
give your pros and cons

Go the cruiser you will still want to in the surf and doing that in the newer surf would ruin it more than you want to, also the new turbo diesel surf's have head problems still and they also if automatig end up with gearbox issues if you tow heavy stuff around.
Either way make sure you enjoy whatever you get
Or go the 40
that from a man with a Hilux

looks like the votes are going the way I'm hoping
just trying to toy with the fact that I will be on road more than off but when I get off I don't just do shiney stuff.
The surf will need hooks etc etc the cruiser is ready to go
Will be using for carting gear for house renovations too.
the locker is a lockrite so it skippy in the back - what's the thoughts of putting that in the front which is out of mesh on road and putting the l;sd back in the back? Tell me about those US lockrites - mr O had on in his suz?

Sounds like an FRP top BJ73 Model Cruiser your keen on
Thats what i've got, been giving it heaps for almost 3 years now and the only time its ever let me down was when i broke Birfield joints. In saying that, i would blame my driving more than the truck
I fitted 35's onto it without to much hassle (50mm Bodylift) and with the turbo in your one you'd spin them without to much hassle. I have a rear locker and a tight LSD in the front. I am still using the standard springs but have recently done a SOA (first test this weekend
) I find it to be excellent offroad and is certainly capable of keeping up with most other trucks without to much hassle. I guess what i'm saying after all this rambling
is GO THE CRUISER

go the cruiser, had a 13bt bj73 a couple of years back and it was a machine ,went better round the south coast then my injected 400 chev 40 did,(40 had to much power on the beach and just dug to china)i could stop in cave bay and tow other vechicles out.only mod i did was put 32 x11.5s on it and 2.5inch exhaust from front to back . and it towed my 40 on a trailer great. when not towing got great mileage too up to 700 kms out of a tank surfs suck
wouldn't we just expect the nizz blokes to call round here some time!
Want something more compact than a whale, and your terranos don't seem up there.
I'll put your nizz diesels on a par with toyota, but not the bodies of most nissans... Can't speak on safs tho, don't know their build quality but would consider them to be pretty good. they just don't have a unit suited to what I'm after... plus we are pretty toyota faithful here, (10 in the family at one point, 7 drivers)... faithful due to having an excellent run out of all our toyotas

Bought the cruiser, just got back from hour and a half each way to pick it up. After getting back I still had to spend 20mins down the river in the dark just to make sure the 4x4 works etc.
Call me silly - I also bought a 94 prado today, 3ltr turb, needs some work.
Surf should be going this weekend. The cruiser is certainly heaver and sinks into sand etc more, will take a wee bit of getting used to. Do like the extra power tho! - From 3Y to 13BT - noticeable difference!
