warn 8274
warn 8274
Righto , is a 8274 more durable than the ususal straight thru planetary geared ones, eg xd 9000. The 8274 looks pretty basic inside , apart from high unloaded line speeds, which im not really interested in. it seems to have a good cable capacity on the drum. Bad points?? looks easier to fix to me , what is your views. Thanks in advance

they are definately a big bulky winch to mount on the front of a vehicle and although I've never weighed mine it would be up there in the 50kg range... and combine that with a 50kg arb winch bar thats a lot of weight to have sitting up on the front of a vehicle.
They have much better cooling ability than low mount winches and the fact that they are just about the only electric winch the comp guys use tells you enough......

Absolutely love mine, wouldn't have anything else, winches=maintanence and I can maintain this very simply
Pros.....
fast line speed (although I don't compete this is still a +)
Motor mounted high outa the crap
50meters of rope (not the usual 30)
looks like it means buisness
Easy to maintain
Cons......
hard to mount up high
hard to mount concealed
only 8000lb (standard)
heavy
But if I was replacing my 8274 it would be with another 8274

I hate signatures
The Warn 8274 is used by some Winch comp guys but only because they are the fastest elec winch out there ,You will find most of the larger trucks ie nissans etc have pulled them of and are now either pto or going Hyd,Some are using them as a back up winch,I would suggest that you also have a good look at the Superwninch EP9 ,thats also a good winch ,Freespools well and i think you can run rope on it also ...Steve
