Fitting exhaust brake to 1kzj71 TD Auto

Post by oldblue »

Would there be any adverse promblems fitting an exhuast brake to a 3lt 1KZJ71 AUTO. I realise that i would only have braking in 1st gear. Would this setup damage the motor. Im trying to improve my downhill braking.

the only thing i can think of is it could cause damage to the EX. valves and may be some over heating problems with the head and cooling system . have not done this or seen it done . but i know you can buy the kits .

I would fit one the next size up from your exhaust so that there is no restriction in your line. The mu's have a warm up valve type thing in their line, If it was hooked up differently then it could be used as a brake too. There is no reason why it could only work on 1st gear, most small trucks have them fitted to the acclerator so that when you take your foot right off it applys the brake, but only for a short time. Have thought of doing this myself, but i would want a 3.5 or 4 inch unit which would be getting very heavy and bulky Will be interesting :?:

The reason it only works better in 1st is because of the lockup on 1st gear in the auto. I had this problem on another auto-with an exhaust brake combo.2nd and drive have over-run.My question was .could i fit a exhaust brake to a1KZJ71 motor with out damageing the engine
