We should be there + 1 other possibly. We're back on the standard AT's though. Sort of in the same boat as 4x4boy, just sorting out rims for the 33's but will still be there.

This may seem like a dumb question, but do we need to bring some meat for the BBQ?

No need to change it, I'll just follow the crowd. I assume I'm heading for the big blue area. How many paddocks in Amberley could there be marked out in blue.

Anyway, why cant I follow you. I'll give you one free 6" corner block already containing concrete fill, the block is free, the fill is $3.00

Don't go rushing out buying equipment, there will be plenty there. Come along to see what sort of equipment you will need. No you won't need to bring meat.

As Al has said no need to bring meat

I'm doing the catering, it will be a BBQ with hamburgers, american hot dogs, sausages in bread, orange juice for the kids.
Will also have tea, coffee, milk and sugar (bring your own cup)

Food will be available the whole day, and it will be by a donation basis (you pay what you think it's worth :mrgreen:

), so i'm not handling money :wink:

Just to confirm is the $5 fee a per vehicle or per person charge if more than 1 person is driving the same vehicle?

Per driver, its not the vehicle that is insured when you join the nz4wda :wink:

so day memberships are not issued to vehicles

Just as a side note to all members of the forums here; if you are thinking you have not got the correct recovery equipment or gear to attend the training day, dont worry, just come along.

I know Al and the team has all the gear and expertise to guide and suggest areas where you need to make changes / modifications as well as the basic recovery equipment you should have etc.

Please do not think you are not capible or experienced enough to attend.

Lets all make this a great learning experience. :wink:

I would like to offer a huge vote of thanks to those who organised todays event. It was fantastic to say the least. Great food, company and weather.

Tim for all the cooking on the BBQ as well as supplying your caravan etc for the food/drinks area.
Al and Mike for running the training side of things.
And lastly Rick for the use of his land.

Al took us through an introduction on basic equipment to carry when 4x4ing and how to use this equipment. After this Mike ran the failed hill climb section. There were a number of people who have not done this before, and it was good to see their confidence grow both here and as the day went on, well done to you.

Al then took us through the winching demonstration, explaining the saftey aspects and dangers of "live" winch-ropes. He demonstrated power winching with his truck, then with my truck he showed us how to operate a turfour. It was then time for those present to have a go just to see how much energy is required to use the turfour.

Lunch was had and then it was off to the river for further demonstrations of snatch recoveries, driving in mud, finishing with a quick jaunt down the beach to the cliff.

As above thanks to all involved. exceler\t organisation skills and many thanks go to Rick for allowing us access to such a good training area. the only breakages I know of was one rubber wheel arch and a brake line that Rick and H2O lover repaired.

I too would like to pass on my appreciation to Al, Mike, Rick and Tim. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and learnt an awful lot of good information and techniques.

It was great to finally meet some of the membership from ChCh, and the weather could not have been better.

Just got to get those damn tow hooks sorted, coz I was pissed off I couldn't go into that mud hole down by the beach. :twisted:

My thanks to all, my son and I had a great time and learnt a lot. Confidence is way up now that I have some idea of what this vehicle can do.

Appreciated all the pointers by Al and Mike, loved the food, coffee and chat.

If anyone else who was at the training day has photos that they are not sure how to post, please dont be shy and keep them to yourself, we are all happy to help get them on the forum for you, we all started out havin to learn how.

There was a lot going on during the day so at the moment it looks like very few photos were taken other than Kiwipetes.

It's always good to show all the other regions what we have been up to, and show them what they missed out on :lol:

Hell yeah, even my Terrano on shitty 31's managed to drag its ass through that mudhole. :shock:
