Vitara gearbox problem

I have purchased a 1990 vitara

problem is not having 1st 3rd or 5th gears

Previous owner had gearlever pop out and after refitting had missing gears. Gear lever seems very loose.

anyone know whats happened ?

Hi rakiura, If 1st, 3rd and 5th are missing I would say the gear lever has been fitted into the wrong slot in the selectorforks. 1,3,5 are all with the gear lever in the foreward or front position. Remove the gear lever, use a screwdriver and line all the selectors up, refit the gear lever in the middle slot and give it a try.
With Rakiura for a name do you role your R's ? and like Oysters,???? :wink:

just an update

pulled gearbox out today and found that when the gearlever had been removed the nylon busing had fallen into the space behind the selector rail stopping it being able to move to the rear maiking it impossible to engage 1st 3rd or 5th
