Reboring 1300 engine to 1600

Post by Heath »

Just bouncing an idea off you guys. Was reading about installing a vitara 1600 in a 1300 zuk and thought if the blocks are basically the same then why not just rebore the original block out. All the bits fit, no need to get fiddly spacers and extra parts and best of all the original engine number/ covers so no need for cert (yeah I know strictly speaking it should if it increases output markedly).

Okay so what are the downsides to my idea (cost, etc) and upsides if any?

Cheers,

Heath

The blocks could be different, probably not just a case of boring it out, and 300cc would be a lot to ask for. Why not just get a 1600 motor? Lot less hassle and cost i reckon.

The bore is 74mm in a 1300 and 75mm in a 1600. Most of the capacity comes from the 15mm longer stroke.
The 1600 block is about 30mm taller.

1600's are getting cheap these days. Plus theres some guy round here that I've heard makes excellent quality adaptor kits for a very reasonable price

Edit: Oh, and plus, you get EFI with a 1600.... mmmmm.....EFI....

Yeah I know about the vitara swap, but in my "painfull explore all possibilities" process, I thought to see what the benifits would be (if any).

I am picking the cost of rebore and rebuild would be more than a good EFI vitara donk anyway.

I would most likely go with the 1600 swap myself as it does everything and if EFI is thrown in why not. Just with EFI there comes more hassles with instalation than a simple carb conversion.

Just thinking thats all.
