Safari tune up(hair dryer install)

Post by Shane »

Been a few turbo installs of late so thought I'd join the band wagon and squese a few more ponys out of the old TD42 :D
Turbo manifold made,oil feed hose/drain pipe fabricated and connected,air cleaner repositioned,dump pipe flange made but not welded yate.
Just need to sort exhast and intake/snorkel pipes now,hope to have it going next weekend.

Probably a bit late now but there is an oil feed you can take from the left hand side. It is located by the left hand engine mount it is a small plug in the block and is removed with a small allan key.

Turbo is a Hitach HT-18(from mazda dac-dac,dont tell anyone :oops: )
payed $275 for turbo off TM,first one I got was stuffed so sent it back.
add another $300-350 to reco turbo,I'm not going to at this stage turbo looks o.k.
Plus approx $250-350 for mandel bends,fittings,flanges,gaskets,rubber bends for intake etc

Total:about $6-700 not inc turbo rebuild or labour,but depends if you can get some of the parts cheap etc

I found the hardest part making the exhast flange for turbo,not that much room to play with there.

Theres 3 places you can take the oil feed,I found the sender unit as easy as any.

Cant wait to get the bitch going

Has anyone got any recommendations for a turbo? I have heard you can use a CT-26 or a Mitsi Turbo. I found this snippet the other day with the specs of one of the after market turbos.

TD05H-16G "small" turbo, which come out on Mitsubishi 3000GT cars, among others.......specs as follows:

Compressor Wheel:
Inducer = 1.83"
Exducer = 2.365"
Trim = 60
A/R ratio = 0.49

Turbine Wheel:
Exducer = 1.93"
Inducer = 2.20"

Cheers

I posted that info some time ago....its for the standard turbo used in DTS kits for TD42 engines and is put together by MTQ in Aussie.

There are two larger variations of that TD05H turbo that MTQ do as an optional upgrade......uses 18G and 20G compressor covers, plus trimming (to varying degrees) of the exh wheel.

My truck and the race truck both use CT26 turbos (twin waste-gated, 6-bolt exh housing) from Celica GT-4. Ceramic exhaust wheel replaced with steel wheel and shaft. Mine has T04-E compressor and race truck uses T04-B...both trucks get along alright.

Yeah, we got the call on Saturday night (I was down in Vegas dropping off a gearbox) about a truck stuck half way. I had to get back to Aucks on Sunday and rest of the lads had a day up in Mamaku's planned, so he didn't get over till Monday. Did he get the guy out?

Hard to say what HP its producing at the moment. Too scared to put it back on the dyno after the last one engine expired while doing a "settling in" run on it. That engine only got to 150-160 KW(ATW) and still had a lot left to go. Truck is for sale if anyone is interested.

Race truck is the one for sale. No plans as yet, just watching the way the sport is developing to see how to build a truck with an edge over the rest.

Maybe something lighter, slightly shorter wheelbase and closer to the ground. Nothing wrong with the current truck, but it literally has to be driven into the ground at each event to keep up with the big boys, and then rebuilt before the next comp.

Quite possibly Steve. Az has replaced inner front guards, outer guards, rad support and a-pillars etc to tidy it up. Would be reluctant to wreck it again if someone was keen to buy it. If someone comes up with a wad of cash, its theirs.
