retreads??

Post by Petemcc »

Can you still get tyres retreaded? are they legal? does anybody cut their own tread. Had a thought that i might be a cheap way of getting some agressive tyres for offroad only.

how does it work? i was thinking along the lines off take in a bald 33inch tyre and get them to stick some rubber on then cut yourself some tread?
Some of the trials guys seem to have tyres that could have been self cut, or are they just wierd tyres that not many ppl have?

the trials guys wont have them as it against the rules to hand cut tyres.

you can get a remould tyre called a Mongrel. I'll have a look at work tomorrow and see who makes them and if you can still get them. They look very similar to a Simex Extreme Trekker.

I'm pretty sure the mongrel's are unavailable. Think the company went belly up.

I rang the guys who used to do mongrels, and they have changed thier name to TYREMAX. when i asked about the mongrels they said they never heard of them, yet less than one year ago thier phone number was the number you rang to get mongrels.

So unfortunately it looks like you will have to buy new tyres.
look on trade me, they have cheap maxxis MT754 tyres $220.
I run these on one of my trucks and they are great on and off road.
real good value for money.
