Engine dies at idle and splutters under load it will run on the choke but does not sound right
I have checked for vacuum leaks, checked the timing, fuel and fuel filter, fuel lines, coil, leads, spark plugs and dizzy they all seem to be ok.
Cleaned the rochester 2bl carb out the jets are clear, how do you check the mech fuel pump?

Does sound like a air leak of some sort if using the choke fixes it.
You mentioned it was leaking fuel the other day, I would be checking the float level in the carb to make sure it's not too high or too low.
Hard to check the pump - the output pressure should be somewhere around 4 psi and you can do a volume check by running the pump into a large bucket and timing the flow.
Matt.

for the zuk carb an old trick is to remove all the stuff off the carb top (so you can get clear access to the barrel)get it running and rev it up and then block the throat so it stalls (or nearly stalls). This clears any crap out of the jets and can be a usefull trick if stuck on the road side. Some say use the flat of your hand but I dont like that idea (especially on a bigger engine) so a flat clean piece of wood / steel maybe is safer(something that wont break up and send rust or splinters into the engine is best).
This is just a trail fix and may give some respite for the trip home but is in no way the proper way to fix the problem. A full tear down and clean is the proper way, but you never know...

Pulled the carb right off and found that a bolt that holds the venturi cluster to the carb just spins in the hole
i was going to put a new kit on the carb but there is no point if the carb will never work properly, i might as well put the $60 towards a new/used carb .
Would the quadrajet bolt right on to a 350 ?
